I am having a rather perplexing issue with our Windows Embedded Standard 7 setup. Creation of the boot media and installation work perfectly. I can run my programs and do pretty much everything that I need to do. However, when we turn on the Enhanced Write Filter, we all of the sudden get a weird issue when trying to run any program (including MS programs like calculator and notepad): a dialog box pops up explaining that the digital signature of the program cannot be verified or something to that extent, are we sure that we would like to proceed. I have searched far and wide and cannot seem to find anyone with a similar issue. Thoughts? I found a post here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/turning-off-digital-signatures/23c67c73-3fa0-4de3-a9b5-3adf4c3472f3 about disabling integrity checks, but I am not sure if this does what we want it to do, which is disable these warnings, nor do I know if this is at all a desirable solution. Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

I actually figured this one out myself now (after spending about a day on it the other day). The fix, oddly enough, was to change the Internet settings. I set "Launch Applications and Unsafe Files" to "Enable" from "Prompt," and everything works fine. I am still confused as to why this works: the applications that I try to run are not from the internet (in fact, the computer is not connected to the internet), and the setting only seems to matter when the write filter is enabled. I am happy that it works now, but I would still be curious if anyone has any ideas as to why this works the way it does.

Wednesday, April 17, 2013 12:21 AMDid you find any further information on this issue? I am experiencing the same problem. I am a little suspicious that this could be caused by a recent update but i have not been able to determine which one has caused it.

Well I've narrowed it down to the following update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2817183.
