Decrease size of MS Project File

Question

I currently have a file that's 1MB. When i delete all the tasks, resources and save..  the file grows in size.

Is the file continually saving a history or temp files... if so is there a way to remove them?

Reason being  i have a template which i am constantly updating and i'd hate to see the day it grows past 2mb. A work around would be to create a fresh new project file and copy all the content, but I don't want to go down that road.

Try opening the file and immediately saving it, then closing it.  Also you can try exporting to XML and then reimporting to see if that does anything.

Hey, all...I have similar issue...have tried all steps preceeding this post (ie, FAQ43, xml export, etc) to no avail.  My file of about 500 tasks has bloated to almost 40mb (no graphics incorporated).  I went so far as to take a copy of my file, delete every single task, (ie, zero tasks), saved, and my file stayed basically at 39+Mb.  What is happening here.  Is this basically how it has to be?  Why no fix for this?  ARG!!

Ideas appreciated. Maybe there have been some new developments, but my sifting through the various websites on the net indicate this is a persistent issue.  note:  I posted a thread on this yesterday, and it appears to have been deleted, so thought I would post here.  Apologies for the piggy back...
