Just saw an icon in email subject line! How do they do it?

I just recieved an email message from Eventful and they have a "star" in their email message subject line.  Does anyone know how they do that?

just remember that displaying specific character depends on font used. Verify with character map in windows that the font you want to use will be able to display it, otherwise you will get question mark or square box.
