Subscribe linux machine at Windows server

Question

I have a DNS server as well as DHCP server under a machine that reun with windows XP, when I try to register my linux machine through the dhcpcd command I get a new IP from the windows server but its hostname is not reachable, i.e. the IP is assigned but the machine is not subscribed at the windows DNS, does anyone has an idea why?
