This issue is more of a curiosity rather than an issue..
It seems that powerpoint vba can only be run automatically within an add in. OK
If the pptm / pptx was in Sharepoint, you can click on view and open in your client side copy of Powerpoint with an Addin installed.
However when you have web apps enabled (as we do) you can view office documents inside the browser without needing a local client Powerpoint.
>> I was wondering if you can load the Powerpoint addins on the sharepoint server side, and these will be available when Powerpoint is being run as a web app ?
If MS allowed VBA to run at start automatically in the vba code, this would be academic as the web app would be able to behave the same as a normal office powerpoint.

Thank for posting in the MSDN.
It's base on my experience that SharePoint doesn't support VBA on Web application. And I think it will make more sense if you post it in the http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010general/threads.
