If you don't have an application which requires .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0 or 3.5, then you probably don't need them (unless you are using Windows Vista, 2008 or Win7 which contain 2.0/3.0 as part of OS).
You will have to probably look into Windows Update options if there is a way how to disable a particular important update to install.

- Renda, this is a developers forum. Each of the patches along with the framework is what all of us developers need to write safe secure software. We look at these items as the fundamentals of the services our software provide.
To an end user they look like a black box just cluttering up space. But just like an engine in a car, yes it takes up space but its needed, its also in need of updates, changes and care and maintenance. The metaphor applied to software is similar.
Do you have a programming issue with this? If so we want to hear it and make it a better product. If you are simply ranting about patches and updates, well frankly that is true of all OSs from Linix to Apple. There is no getting around it.

- I thankyou, for your input I also wonder if when they update they just add what we really need to the Net Framework packages or if it is just alot of useless things to crowd up and slow down our computers.
IMO: Installing newer (and more secure) versions of SW on computer is quite common practice - I have seen it for IE, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Flash, Firefox and other smaller SW ... so I wonder why you are surprised that .NET Framework does the same. If you value your disk space more than having latest and most secure version of SW (or framework in this case) on your machine, then you have the choice of setting up updates installation options that way. For example administrators in enterprises do these things all the time for users in the company.
I don't think there's any conspiracy that tries to crowd up and slow down computers world wide.

IMHO : In the days of terrabyte drives for $75US, is 124 megabytes for V1-V3.5 (<1% 2/10th of a gig) of really taking up that much space? What size hard drive do you have?
Note .Net 3.5 needs 3 and 2.0, those are tied together, hence the updates.
William Wegerson (www.OmegaCoder.Com)- I was not saying anything about a conspiracy that tries to crowd up and slow down computers,,and sure I know that installing important security updates is especially now days a neccesity. I am surprised that you had that reaction to my comment, that was not the way it was intended!!!! I just feel I need to clear this up with anyone that may read your personal views and feel the same way. My response was simply a light hearted comment made.
Sincerly.
