.NEt 3.5 SP1 Failing on RGB9RAST_x86.msi download.

Question

Hi All,

I've been trying to run our installation which autoinstalls .NET 3.5 SP1 on my Windows XP machine and have experianced troubles installing the framework on a machine with .NET 2.0 installed on it. I have not tried it with any other version.

The log file shows the problem is that I can not download from the URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=72535&clcid=0x409; By going to that url in my browser, it does indeed give me a file stating that it is not found. For some reason few seems to be running into this issue they are running into one issue after they download this file. The only solution I found is to have the users download the full framework. Is this the only solution?

Thanks for your post.

It seems some components were removed from the server like .NET 1.1 and .NET 2.0. Maybe the package you mentioned is also removed.

I'm not sure why these packages were removed. Although they are out of our lifecycle.

I've reported this issue to get more details.

For your issue now, I recommend you download the full package from here:

Thanks for the reply. Also thanks for reporting this for me.

Hopefully the file is re-instated. I understand that it is out of the product life-cycle but since .NET 3.5 is side by side with .NET 4 and a number of applications that still exist out there are 3.5 and lower it would be rather good to extend ability to obtain the files until Windows 7 becomes the defacto standard.

I Barry and BID,

It happens to me the same thing. As prerequisite, my software application to install need to install (when absent) .NET 3.5 S1. The installation fails under the conditions described by IDB.
 As workaround, I downloaded the full version. NET 3.5 S1.
I installed the full version (with success).
Then I then wanted to install the software that requires NET 3.5 SP1.
This software keeps trying to install  .NET 3.5 SP1 and the installation fails.

I am of the opinion of barry. Please do not change access to old .NET framework packages.

  Thanks for writing in. I believe this effects more users that they intended. As any bootstrap with the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 will fail. From my understanding the downloader for the .NET 4.0 bootstrap also attempts to download this file but I can not be sure, I have not tested it myself.

I don't think Barry has the ability to decide whether the file is or isn't there but can report issues and help us get this resolved. He's been a great help so far.

I just checked if the file was present and it does indeed look like the file is back up and live. Our bootstrapped installers should be working again.
