What program do I use to open .NET framework 3.5 sp1?

Question

trying to install .NET framework 3.5 sp1 on Windows XP virtual machine inside a Windows 7 computer.  I can download the file but then when I try to open it the computer asks me what program do I want to use to open it?  Can't figure it out.

Please show us the link where you downloaded ".NET framework 3.5 sp1".

If you download the cumulative installer here:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe

you will get a .exe file. You should be able to double-click on it to start the install.

got it from an error message that popped up from a program I was trying to install.  While I was waiting for a reply here I also contacted the company and the help person gave me a direct link for it and that worked.  Thank you
