Thursday, April 07, 2011 8:01 AMHi,
I'm currently using a window 7 64 bit operating system fujitsu laptop and I've been trying to install a update: 'Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB2160841)'. However, upon many tries of installing the update, i still couldn't get it install. The error details for the update is Code 66A.
Therefore, after searching on Windows forum for solution for that error, i've tried to repair the Microsoft .Net Framework 4 Client Profile by following these steps:
A. Click on Start and click on Control panel.
B. Go to Program and Features.
C. Scroll down to Microsoft.Net Framework 4 Client Profile, right click it.
D. It will give you a choice of Uninstall/Change, click it.
E. Then, it will give a choice to repair.
After following the above steps, the repair did not succeed because: Generic trust failure.
Part of the log:

Please verify your .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile with this tool:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx
If issues are found, first uninstall the client profile through Control Panel->Programs and Features. Then use this tool to be sure it is fully removed:

Clean out your %temp% folder, disable your AV software and run the installer "as administrator".

Saturday, August 13, 2011 3:22 PMI have tried all of the above and none fixes the problem. My problem began with the Tuesday updates that took place August 9, 2011. That may be the reason why this does not work, as all the solutions above predate my problem. I have tried all of the above, to no avail ...

Then PLEASE start your own thread, and provide a link to your install logs:
collect the logs with this:
After you run Collect.exe, you'll find vslogs.cab in your %temp% directory. Please upload vslogs.cab to a public site, like SkyDrive, and post the link in your new thread.
Readers of your new thread will need to see the full logs to determine the specific failure reason.

1) Download the 'rootupd.exe' from microsoft.
2) Run it. (there will be no indication that it ran. Nothing pops up)
3) Try your install again.I have Window 7 pro x64 and have been trying to fix this for over a year. EVERY THREAD EXCEPT 1 WAS WRONG! (sorry about the caps) They said to try runing .net uninstaller, run as admin, extract and install all the certs, delete, and redownload. Nothing worked. Finally one person said to try the rootupd.exe. It worked.
