    Hi Ralph,

Glad to hear from you again. And thank you for your email yesterday.

I've looked into the log files that you attached. I found the exact the same error message in my last reply of the above link.

To be honest, it's not one common error message. It's the first time that I came across this error code. I may have a try. I hope that I can help you on your concern.

Could you please try upgrading Windows Installer to the latest Version 4.5?

Let me know if it works.

    Best regards,
    Yichun Chen

    Hello Yichun,

I installed the latest version of the installer, 4.5 and was able to install the .net frameworks family update successfully. I then went to Windows Update to see if there was anything else that needed installing and it said I was up to date.

Thanks for your help - again.

    Hi Ralph,

    It's my pleasure!

Some notes to "Mark as Answer":
We should mark the right answer to the post as Answer instead of marking the last reply in the post.
This would be beneficial to other community members as well.
Thus, I marked my reply as answer.
Thank you for your understanding.  :)

It's really good news to me! If you have any concern on .NET Framework installation, please feel free to let me know.

    Have a great weekend.

    Best regards,

Yichun - you are a genius! I've been battling this one for weeks and many hours. Upgrading to Windows Installer 4.5 fixed this issue.  My next step was a rebuild of the server, reinstalling a LOB app, AV, file shares and printers - not something I was looking forward to.

    Thank you.

    Hello Yichun,
I have Windows Server 2003 latest patches until KB2446704.
That didnt work for me. However i followed all the steps described here but windows installer 4.5 did solve the issue now i'm at the stage
where the msi from 2.0 SP2 does not accept any patches on top of it

On April 14 i installed the latest security updates where KB2446704 failed to install. I then went thru the suggested cleanup process and was able to install all until Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86 which fails with

This patch contains 3 patches inside

    3.5 - OK

    3.0 - OK

    2.0 - fails

If i try to run NDP20SP2-KB958481-x86 manually it shows me "none of the products are installed", tough .NET SP2 is installed and validation tool succeeds.

I have tried all possible articles without any luck in the past 2 days.

How can i find what this patch is {2F3AB6ED-951C-4CE7-8AC9-8546FDCF1F5A}?

Is there a way to remove any uninstalled patches or is there any other solution that may cause the issue, before i go with reinstalling the whole machine.

What i found is the following left overs inside %WINDIR%\Installer:

    KB974417, KB2418241, KB983583, KB976576, KB979909, KB976765, KB980773

If they are not in the %WINDIR%\Installer or in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Patches

Why does the wizard msi from 2.0 SP2 does not accept any patches? Each patch ends with "None of the products that are addressed by this software update are installed on this computer. Click Cancel to exit setup." if i run it manually.

Above error is when i run it from Microsoft Update.

Now any patches fail to install on top of 2.0 SP2.

Are there any other solutions before i go for reinstall?

    Thanks & Regards,

    Constantin

    Hi Yichun,

I had the same problem and could solve it by upgrading Windows Installer to the Version 4.5.

    Thank you for your help.
