Which version of Framework .net?
-
Wednesday, May 09, 2007 2:48 AMI have several version of Framework .net; 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0. They seem to take up a lot of space. I'm guessing that my kids downloaded them for different video games or apps, which really annoys me. We use our computer for games and ebay mostly; we don't create apps or code things. However, I know that some software requires this program to work. Is it safe to say that I can delete the past versions and simply keep the most current? I can't for the life of me figure out what programs I could possibly have that would require so many versions!
Thanks to anyone that can advise me!

To be the most safe do not remove any of them.
Further, to remove all but the most current would not be the right choice. The following URL describes that .NET Framework 3.0 is actually based on 2.0. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/aa663309.aspx You should keep both on your machine.
Additionally, there were many breaking changes between 1.0 and 2.0, so some of the 1.0 applications might not work if they call deprecated 2.0 functions.
One thing that you could try is removing 1.0 & 1.1 and see what stops working and then put them back if you need to.

Wednesday, May 09, 2007 6:43 AMMicrosoft has made sure that .NET Framework is backwards compatible with the prior releases of the .NET Framework although they don't take that much space I would say that it is okay to uninstall .NET Framework 1.0, .NET Framework 1.1.
