Using .NET 3.5 assembly in app targeted for .NET 2.0

Question

We have a vendor supplied application that is written in .NET 2.0 managed code.  I would like to create a .NET 3.5 assembly and call it from
the 2.0 App.  Is this possible?  The 3.5 assembly would call a WCF service hosted in IIS and this is not possible using 2.0.  Any help would
be appreciated.  Thanks.

It won't be an issue at all.  .NET 3.5 is just .NET 2.0 with additional assemblies. 

Just create the new assembly in 3.5 and reference it from the 2.0 assemblies like normal, and make all your calls to the new assembly just as you would if it were a 2.0 assembly.

I have the 3.5 assembly built and signed and used gacutil -i assemblyname.dll to install it into the gac.  It is not
visible from my 2.0 targeted application.  Am I doing something wrong?? 

I also added my app.config values to the Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.05x\CONFIG\machine.config file.  Is
this the appropriate thing to do or is there a better way.  Thanks again.

You didn't mention the GAC before.  I don't believe it'll work when you install it to the GAC.  What's wrong with simply referencing it and not installing it in the GAC?
