Windows 2008 r2 64bit and .Net Framework 3.5 sp1

Question

I'm running w2k8 r2 64 bit, in the roles I checked the box for .net framework 3.5. I assumed that installed it, although in the add remove programs it does not show it being installed.
Now I would like to install .net 3.5 sp1, how is this done??? MSupdates does not do it, i've tried downloading the full version and it doesn't load, plus I do not get any message  back saying it can't load.
This is a bunch of BS!!, Can anyone help....please?
