help... cert failed becuase I obsfucated my code

"Cannot enumerate resources in executable" - ensure executable contains min icon requirements....

I did as suggested in the other thread (linked below) on this topic and sent in the 'Waiver request' when I submitted the application but it made no difference. So now I have wasted one of my submission points, or do they refund this if I resubmit and it gets rejected for another reason.. (i.e. will I be done 1 or two points)... And how do I get this through as I already submitted a waiver request last week with the application..

My other apps submitted were obsfucated the same way and would have given the same error but they got through???

Marketplace anti-piracy code causes certification failure

I added the new anti-piracy code to my .NET app (it's the only change I made) and re-submitted it for verification. I received a failure message stating "application crashes upon startup". It seems likely to me that the ISV didn't actually install the app, and therefore the new validation code failed. This highlights 3 things:

1. I would like to get more feedback from the ISV, as I'm paying for these checks (time or money), and "crashes on startup" isn't enough information.

2. There needs to be a way a developer can contact an ISV in order to narrow down an issue

3. The code Microsoft supplies for the license validation (.NET) isn't great - the line below will obviously result in a null reference exception if the marketplace registry keys aren't present.

Support info unavailable on the device

In the mobile Marketplace client, I tried and could not find any support/contact info for the product. It's neither in the product details in the catalog, nor in the "My products" section. As a result, the only means of feedback the customer has is a review, as described here:

But I have no way of responding to the review. To add insult to injury, MSFT worked hard to make sure links to my website are not prominently displayed in the product itself.

New app in certification process for nearly a month

I am owed $500+ after I had to pay twice to pass some apps even though they should never have failed. This has been confirmed. It is now over 2 months since the original payments. That is an awful long time. I've emailed one contact who is very helpful but can't tell me when the $500+ will be credited back to my card. Why is this so difficult? I waited months now and the last thing I need is to have to attempt chargebacks to recover the money (unless this is the best approach?).

I submitted my first update of my app on Monday 11/16, got a rejection immediately the next day because I had advanced protection code in it. I was disappointed that MS wasn't readdy for the advanced protection but somewhat happy that the review process was quick.

I removed the protection code and resubmit on 11/18 just so my bug fixes can be published. No major changes or new features were added at all. It has been sitting there for a week now. So rejections are so quick but approvals take that long?

Can someone at MS help me with this? My App ID is 2a566179-d40b-449f-89dd-efb0bb4eaf47 (from TranCreative LLC).

Five application submisssion credit

Hello,

Would like to know that if we submit the application once registered and it fails to fulfill the application submission guidelines, then will the application re-submission come into the 5 free submission or we have to pay $99 again ?

Also would like to know that if we submit the application now will it be valid for the 5 free application submission ? Have this started or will be applicable later on at end of 2009 (As mentioned)?

Is there anything an application submitted to marketplace needs to do in terms of application licensing?

To state another way, is there any way to police the CAB file received from the marketplace and I used to install application A cannot be simply copied and given to user B to install on his device?

I have developed mobile applications, but we are doing our own licensing, but that will obviously not work if the user is buying through the marketplace.

Hi,

How does marketplace take care that the user has installed the latest version of the application ?
We have an application in marketplace today. A user downloads our application say "App".
Tomorrow we submit the new version of the application in marketplace. How does marketplace take care that the user gets the indication about the new version ?
Is this should be taken care in the application itself to indicate end user for the update from marketplace ?

Certification Processing Failed - No reason other than "Contact Support". What do we need to do?

On 9/21/2009 we received a "Certification Processing Failed" message when we submitted the IntelliGolf Eagle OTA software for the Pocket PC and the WM Smartphone platforms. But, there was no Detailed Report provided. It just said "Contact Support". So, we did. Twice the Microsoft folks (Vijay and Jo) replied with "engineering is evaluating the issue now and we will get back to you shortly". It has now been almost 6 weeks without any answer. Would someone get back to us so that we can fix/re-submit the IntelliGolf (www.intelligolf.com) application?

Has anybody had a successful submission with advanced copy protection yet? It has been reported here before that a submission like this was discarded due to the protection itself. I am about to submit a new product and wasting £99 is not something to overlook...

Hi, I approved my app to be submitted to the catalog, it shows that it's released to the catalog, but I don't see it on the store. I'm I suppose to do something else? It was approved last Friday, 20th of November.

what to do with neg feedback fools

I got the this feedback on my main app "This is a nice idea and has the promise of being good app, but it's very buggy (at least my WM 6.1 Fuze). i just used it a bit and have found a few key features that dont work. i'll wait for a few more revs before trying again."

funny thing is the other very positive feedback was from a guy with the same device/model saying it works really well, sold plenty on mobihand and no problems..

But the most annoying thing, if they had a problem why didn't they use support also so I can fix it?? or at least mention in the review what is wrong for their device so I can fix it... Or maybe its just malicious feedback??

Anyone find out if you update your app does it wipe feedback?? lol...

Would be great if we could contact/reply to the feedback/author and find out what the problem is so I/we can actually fix it (if it exists)..

Which Apps Show in the Web Marketplace

I have been trying to figure out what rules decide whether an app shows on the web marketplace or not, and so far I have come up with the following:

This is based on viewing the web marketplace without being logged in.
Application Requirements: Audio, D-PAD, Touch. These will show up.
Application Requirements: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS. These will NOT show up.

Are there others, or there any that do not follow this rule? That is, apps where the developer has specified these requirements, not ones that may require one of these items, but do not have them specifed in the "Application Requirements" section.

Do I need to include .NET CF 3.5 in my CAB file?

I have new app for the marketplace, but it requires .NET CF 3.5. Do I need to include .NET CF 3.5 in my CAB file? Or I can just say: .NET CF 3.5 required? Or may be all WM 6.5 phones have .NET CF 3.5 preinstalled?

Hi, I'm a student, subscribed to dreamspark; Microsoft announced that the marketplace service would be free for dreamspark students (as of this press http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2009/mar09/03-11WMMDevelopersPR.mspx)

"The registration fee is waived for student developers who want to reach Windows^® phones customers, through enrollment in the Microsoft DreamSpark program."

But, as I try to register, all goes well until I am asked to pay the registration fee, something I am not required to pay, as microsoft says, but there is no way to let know the system that I am a student and skip the page...

Any help? I wish to distribute my apps!

Why are 'English' apps in non English territories

It appears a number of English apps have been published to non English territories - as located via the Web Store.

So
i) Given some people have managed this, how do we achieve this ?
ii) Isnt the whole point of the language 'Additional Markets' plan to only allow applications that support the correct languages into specific markets.

For example
Swiss-French - English apps, not French apps
Swiss-German - English apps, not German apps
USA-Spanish - English apps, not Spanish apps

What is doubly frustrating is we have paid for testing of language specific versions of apps for these markets and they are not being listed.

This stuff is not rocket science....

Apps missing in the Web store - not a repeat thread

A significant number of the applications we have paid to be in various markets are simply not displayed in those markets.

I am repeating this problem here (even tho claimed was not in the title - sorry for that) because currently 'Marked as answered' threads are just plain wrong.

i) NON of our apps have any specific device requirements - i.e. they are 'universally available' + support all screen sizes.

ii) we have definately selected the correct Professional/Standard tab

iii) Its irrelevant whether we are signed in or not, the apps are not listed.

Some examples

Swiss-French - 2 apps missing

Swiss-German - 2 apps missing

USA - Spanish - 2 apps missing

India - English - 2 apps missing

plus lots more

I have had windows live id for years now and I obviously know my login id and password because I am posting this post, however, windows marketplace tells me otherwise. I can not log in using my windows live id. After a while it locks my account. What is up with that? WHy? Any fixes? Am I missing something?

Also, scrollbars? You are making me use scrollbars on my phone to browse vertically? WHy build a touchscreen device and force people to use scrollbars is beyond me!

Content Policy and Weapons

I have an application that I would like to publish through the marketplace when ready. However, I was reading through the content policy and was wondering if it will preclude my application outright.

The application is an external ballistics calculator. Applications such as these are used for calculating trajectories for long range shooting.

These factors must match with the criteria you’ve selected for your application in order to find them in the catalog.

Here's the deal, if I'm a customer contemplating buying a WM phone and wanted to check out business or lifestyle applications, How would I know what was offered?

How would a potential WM phone user compare application options?

If I'm not signed in, why is the store not empty? Why only some apps show?

I'm thinking a work around may be to not associate ANY features with the app? In other words, all 6.5 are touch. Developer shouldn't specify touch needed in requirements.

Developer shouldn't specify a keyboard. All devices come with SOME type of keyboard.

Other developers may come up with something that I've missed.

Application Ratings

A week ago or so, I saw sales of one of my applications drop. When I go in and look at the application rating, it showcases 1 out of 5 stars. However, it says that the app has not been reviewed and there are no comments. Has anyone else had the same problem where you see a star rating but no one has actually provided a rating for your content? Any idea of what can be done about it?

Single Application Instance requirement - issue with splash screen?

Hi,

Can someone confirm if our application's launch architecture will cause an issue with the "1.14. Single Application Instance" submission requirement please?

Here's how our app works:
- The Start shortcut launches a native executable that displays a splash screen
- The native executable then launches the main (game) executable, which is a managed (.NET CF) application
- Once the managed application has started, it signals to the splash application so that the splash application terminates.
- As a fail-safe mechanism, the splash application self destructs after several seconds, in case the main application fails to launch for some reason.

So for a brief period (a few seconds), two executables are running: the splash app + the main app. If the user selects the Start icon again, while the game is running, the splash app starts again but is very quickly terminated by the main app and the main app comes to the foreground. There is only ever one instance of the main app running.

The reason for this system is that it can take several seconds for the managed app to launch whereas the splash application launches within a second thereby giving the user better feedback.

I believe our system is within the the spirit of this requirement (i.e. there is only one instance of the main app) but I guess it could fail on a technicality.

Please confirm if this is an issue with this submission requirement.

Our app, MobilMine v2.0, doesn't seem to be posted on https://marketplace.windowsphone.com although it's supposedly been published to the catalog (and I've seen it in the emulator). I just want to confirm that there's not a problem with my app submission. Should it not also be on the web version of marketplace?

Where did the region drop-down go?

I was so excited when the web version launched to see the region/country drop-down in the lower-right. No longer would I have to fiddle with the emulator settings and reset the device to just switch markets to read reviews from other markets on a tiny screen.

But now I'm back this week checking things again and it's disappeared... Can we get it back or at least have access to reviews from the developer portal as well? It'd be great if we as a developer could respond to comments of people having issues too.

I get this error message whenever I click on "My Products" tab and I've been getting this error for some time now.
The only thing that changes everytime is the letter/number combination at the bottom of the page. (e.g. B09/L6D6)

Multiple shortcuts

So, multiple EXE's are not allowed (which is problematic for one of the apps we want to release). Are multiple shortcuts allowed?

If so, does anyone know how to create a shortcut with parameters through the _setup.xml ?

I've tried adding a /paramter to the shortcut value but then WM will complain that "filename.exe /parameter" is not found... Help appreciated!

Product not listed on many markets even though it is published to the catalog

I currently have two apps on multiple markets. I was always wondering why I only got sales on the DE-DE and EN-US market. I thought that there may be just too few customers on the other markets yet. But now that the web catalog opened I checked for my products on the other markets and the reason I get no sales is because they are not listed!!! My Dashboard shows them all as "published to catalog".
They are missing in the following catalogs:
ES-MX
ES-US
DE-AT
DE-CH
EN-IN

And also (it is the 5th time I write this now - 3 times in the forum, 2 times per mail): I still have (for about 2 month by now) my one app for the EN-GB market shown as "Certification failed" in my dashboard even though it passed.

I really hope that this will be fixed soon. Remember: I have payed for this "service"! I paid 90 EUROS for the submitting to additional markets that are not shown in the catalog!

Please clarify this MSFT or give me my money back...

Today I open the Dashboard, and what do I see? On the left-hand nav bar, below the "Publisher identity" and "Primary e-mail", there's a red X mark next to the following:

"Pending eligibility for revenue payout"

Is it a new identity check? What do I have to submit this time?

Nice to know that the Dashboard was updated - but I could use an official "what's new" statement.

Installation to Storage Card

OK, so we all know there is an extensive user supported Windows Mobile community. We all know there are custom ROMS out there (though the launch of WM Marketplace for 6.1 makes this less of an issue, slightly) and we all know people will try to do things the way they want, not always the way you (MS) want them to.

Beef: You can't install Marketplace apps to Storage Card.

Solution: Fix it!

I know, this is a serious oversimplification of the issue, and somewhere I saw the statement that apps will install to Storage Card if main memory is full, but this is just NOT acceptable. Main memory is VERY precious to most WM device owners. We spend considerable time and angst over where to install the latest app we have chosen. We give consideration to whether that app needs to be in main memory, for example, because it updates the today screen. etc.

You will have to work very hard to convince me you have not made a VERY MAJOR blunder here. I have hardly enough main memory as it is (Incite CT810 by LG) but have a 4 GB storage card... PLEASE, get smart, stop limiting everyone's options, let us install the apps to alternative locations.

No 99$ fee for DreamSpark-members?

According to this article (http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/windows_marketplace_for_mobile_opens_to_developers.php), all students enrolling in the DreamSpark-program will not have to pay the 99$ fee for entering the marketplace.

Is this (still) true? If so, are there limitations (like only being able to distribute free apps, etc)?

"It's true, but from what I recall the Marketplace is not yet prepared for students. You may want to ask about this in the Marketplace Forums to get a more complete answer."

I have asked about this to support team and in the forum many times, to get no response. It is almost 2 months now.

Application Failed Certification for UK Market but no Details

I have submitted my application to the US market and it was published in the catalog. I submitted the exact same application and screenshots to the UK market. After about 1 day the status or the UK app changed from submitted to Certification Failed. It is strange, as no details are offered in the testing document linked. All the document fields are empty. Please verify.

OK, it is kind of getting funny...

With today's update, I have lost all reviews that contained only a rating and not a text review. Yet, the client is still the same and users may just submit ratings, which I guess will be ignored.
So, instead of fixing the stars/updates bug, you kind of deleted half our existing reviews...
