- Almost certain that something that has English text on it + targetted at non english market needs to be changed for the non english market else you will be failed. You might want to submit a waiver if you still intend keeping English text on the Icon - e.g. its a brand name or something like that.
Every time the binary CAB gets changed, for whatever reason - irrespective of how small a change - it will need a full $99 re-certification. So if you change a CAB to include a new language, yes a full re-certification/retest at $99 is required.
If you supply a CAB file containinmg multiple languages you need to get 1x $99 full test on the CAB. You then need 1x $9.99 Additional Market testing for each and every Addiditional Market you submit to.
So your app supports say English + Chinese
1x $99 for the first English Market - say USA.
n * $9.99 for any other English markets you want your app in - e.g. UK, AUS, NZ, IE etc
n* $9.99 for any Chinese markets you want your app in, e.g. Taiwan, Hong Kong etc.- Marked As Answer byGousekhan-MSFTMSFT, ModeratorTuesday, November 10, 2009 2:47 PM
- hi Macfinch,
More info for bbjbbj post
Provided the CAB file supports multiple languages, you can add geographic markets to a single application submission. Once your application is profiled and the status reflects “Ready for Certification” in the developer dashboard, just hover over the “gear” icon specific to the individual submission and select “Submit for additional market”. A separate application submission will need to be made in the event the application does not support multiple languages.

- Hi Bookiteam,
The market validation process includes evaluation of both the metadata used to describe the application and text used within the application. For example, validation of a product targeted for the French market will evaluate whether the product descriptions are written in French, any text in screenshots or iconography is in French, and the in-application text is presented in French. Additionally, market validation will ensure that any application types that are prohibited within a specific country are not presented in the Windows Marketplace catalog for that country.

- Hi Gouse,My app is a mult-language tool, the built-in database is English/Chinese.However, user can download other language (ex: Japanese ) for my app.I afraid that hooper loaded the built-in database and then showing not Japanese ( of course, the built-in database is English to Chinese data )Q1:Submit to another market means that marketplace ONLY accepts SAME language to another market ? ex: English/U.S ---> English / U.K.Q2: ( similar to Q1 )Does it possible developer setup many languages in app ( English/Chinese/Japanese/.... ) and submit to many marketplace?Because we only have 1 cab, the default maybe is English, user still need to switch to their target language, is this acceptable ?Thanks.Regards,Boki.

- Hi Gouse,Let me clarify my understanding:The default English language is acceptable to submit to Japan or Chinese market. As long as:1. The screenshot, product descriptions are corresponding right language.2. User can select the target language in app.ex:The default language setting in boki's cab is English, but the Japan users can switch Language to Japanese in app, this is acceptable in marketplace certification, am I correct ?Thank you.Regards,Boki.

- Hi Gouse,Good to hear that.Thank you!Regards,Boki.
- Hey guys.Just to follow on from this conversation. I wondering:1) If my app is already on Marketplace and I update it to include more languages such as French, Spanish etc and then publish it to other markets. Do I need to update the screenshots for those markets as well?2) I assume the screenshots and icons would remain in English if I updated and submitted to publish in another region. Or does the process require me to submit screenshots and icons specific for that region? Thanks guys :D-M
- The process of submitting to another market requires uploading new screen shots, entering new descriptions, keywords and uploading new icons (we always use same icons though regardless of market, though I suppose if you really wanted to you could tweak your icon for each market)
If you want to see what's required, even if you're not ready, go ahead and select submit to additional market. There's no charge until you get to the final page and click submit, and in the mean time you can see exactly what resources you'll need to fill it out.
I have no idea how strict they are on screen shots, but we have them for each language and the data shown on screen as well is all in the specific language. - Hi Karen V.Thanks for your reply, very helpful. Yeah I would want to tweak my icon as it has English words on it. I assume that if my icon has English text and I submitted to the Chinese / Japanese market, that would get rejected, is that correct? Also, does updating the app to a new region require testing by the Marketplace team? Thanks again,-M

- Hi bbj, Gousekhan. Thanks for your replies. Yeah my thinking is I'll add an update to my app adds multiple languages, all I'll need to do is have a few extra bmp's in created and a language selection screen. So just to clarify:1) What if I update an already approved app to include the new languages, and then submit them to new markets. The updates would just be bmp image changes and a basic menu screen. Is it possible to do it this way? Thanks again for your replies,All the best.-M
