How to install LightSwitch HTML Client Preview
-
Friday, November 16, 2012 5:01 PMI tried to run the downloaded package and it gives me error message in Web Platform Installer 4.0, saying Microsoft Web Platform Installer couldn't find the product you tried to install.... What does it require in order to install? I have VS 2012 Premium installed.

Can you try running the Web Platform Installer directly and then searching for the package there? To do this:
- From your Start Menu, find and launch "Microsoft Web Platform Installer". If on launch it asks to "Upgrade", please upgrade it.
- When WPI is launched, do a search (Top right corner of WPI) for "LightSwitch". In the search results, you should be able to find in that list "Microsoft Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2012 - Preview 2"
- Click the "Add" button for this item and then click "Install" and proceed through the setup...
Hope this helps

Thanks, Robert.
When I search LightSwitch in WPI, I don't see the item "Microsoft Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2012 - Preview 2"

Hey PMA,
Can you check which version of WPI you have installed. You can see the version in the Add/Remove Programs dialog. The most recent version is 4.0.1679, if you have the older version 4.0.1622 you won't see the Preview 2 show up. In order to upgrade you should just need to restart WPI and then accept the prompt to upgrade.
Thanks,
Kris

I'm having the same problem as PMA. My WPI versions IS 4.0.1679 but still Preview 2 doesn't show up. This is on my Win 7 Pro 32-bit VM setup.
On another setup (Win ThinPC VM), Preview 2 shows up but WPI crashes when trying to install it with the following error:

If your pc run on windows 7, please check you've installed service pack 1.
In my case, after installing "service pack 1" for windows 7,
I could install preview 2 by WPI.

Same here. After installing Windows 7 SP1 WPI did find the LightSwitch HTML client preview 2.
I did not have Windows 7 SP1 installed because Windows Update didn't offer that update.
Cause of this was a Intel graphics Driver with known compatibility issues with SP1. After installing a newer Graphics driver I could install the SP1 update.

Monday, January 21, 2013 3:35 PMIf it requires Win7 SP1 then why doesn't it say that when you try to install it? I downloaded OfficeToolsForVS2012GA.exe and ran that so you'd think it should know what I was trying to install. If it can't for some obvious reason I wish it had some decent reporting like most installer applications have since, what the 1990's? Web Platform installer loses points here.
