Is it possible to show/hide top-level menu items based on role?

Question

I see how to set the CanRun method an individual menu item, but it is possible to do the following:

I have a couple of items on the main menu that are for admins only, and I don't want regular users to even see the menu items.  So, is it possible to hide the menu item entirely, as opposed to disabling all the items under that menu individually?

Just to be clear, I am talking about hiding the top-level menu item itself and not the items listed under that menu item.

When all items are hidden the main item will be as well.
