Hi,
We won't be able to tell you what features are being considered for the next Word release, at this point in time. For Word 2007, XPS can’t be inserted/imported directly.
XPS (like PDF) is a fixed file format and therefore not a format that can be edited. Thus, you were able to import XPS into Word 2007, the imported content could not be edited.
If you want to get content from an XPS file into Word 2007, you could open an XPS file; then capture it with a screen capture like Vista’s Snipping Tool, which can then be saved as PNG, GIF or JPEG; then inserted into Word 2007 as a picture.
Thanks,
Harjit
