Dropdownlist overlapping rest of the controls

Hi,

I have several controls in a div(div contains a table having 8 td in each row containing lable,dropdown,textbox and calendar icon which is implemented by Javascript). When i click on calendar control it is overlapping the dropdown control thus making the date selection a messy. It works fine with IE 7 but not in IE 6. I went through several ans... like hiding a div - which i cannot do ,changing z-index. Can you please suggest me solutions

Hi All,

I'm currently developing a template HTML / CSS email which my VB.NET system will email automatically to users when they perform specific system actions.

My email is pretty much finished but my issue is formatting it on the screen so it is centered - or if the window is not big enough to show all of the emaill, for it to be at the left, allowing to scroll right.

I have a 640x680 div which contains the rest of my email divs (header/banner, content block, footer). The problem is, I can't seem to get it to format in the right way when the email is opened. When I have done web development in the past, the only way I knew how to make a div center in the screen was to use margin-left: -320px; left: 50% - However when opening the email in outlook, this does not look like I would like it to.

In an ideal world, if the email is opened in a window SMALLER than that of the 640x680 then it should default at the left allowing to scroll right. When the window is expanded, it should center.

Maybe I shouldn't be using divs? Maybe there is a better way of formatting altogether - any pointers would be great.

Hi,

I have a html editor in which i want to add (Create/Insert Hyperlinks) functionality. On click to button in toolbar, it will popup one dialog box which asks for

Text to display
Address

this is not achievable with Createlink command which we normally use in MS html editor. So i designed my dialog box, accept these two fields and created the anchor element and inserted it. Issue with this is anchor element gets added in normal flow of the document. I want it to get added to last caret position.

Please help.....

I am using Windows form user control in ASP.NET. It was working with ie6 and ie7. I don't want to replace windows control to any ASP.NET control.

installing/configuring ie7

We are behind in our ie versions. we are having to install ie 7 on some systems now. The issues are concerning configuring ie 7 so after the install, the questions/settings asked for when you first open ie 7 are already answered/configured for all users.

in past we use scripts and are still using scripts for unattended configuring for apps. Usually modify registry settings, but in this case do not know where to go.

Any help is much appreciated.

Why is IE not using cache for certain files

I have a small XML file on a web server which has a small DTD declared in its DOCTYPE. I have set IIS6 to expire both files in 1 year (Cache-Control: max-age=31536000). I browse to the XML file and IE downloads both it and the DTD and puts both in the browser cache. When I refresh the browser (F5) or close the session and restart, IE sends an If-Modified for the the XML file but requests the DTD from the server. IE adds Pragma: no-cache to the DTD's file request suggesting it doesn't want a proxy to interfere. Why is IE doing this and can the behaviour be modified? I would like IE to read the DTD from the cache as well as the XML file.

Hello,
I am using a custom template on joomla CMS and having some display issues with my site in all versions of IE.
The site works fine in all other browsers but when it comes to IE my content and footer dissapear.
This only happens with the main navigation. "Home, who we are, what we do and contact us" When I use the top "login | shop | Regester | Cart" navigation bar the content and footer appear again.
Im not sure if this is a CSS reset issue as it only happens on certain pages!

its just up for test purposes at the mo so some of the links are not working yet but don't worry about that.
I have tried various CSS tweeks like Reset scripts and different variations of:
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />
Do you know if there is a variation of this that can emulate Firefox?
I have tried:
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="FF=3" />
But this doesn't seem to work iether.
Can anyone help me?

Temporary Internet files with incorrect date

When I go into Internet Options/general/settings for browsing history and ask to view files, the temporary internet files are listed, however the date of today's files changed 1/2 way through the day to a date that is a month or so ahead and hasn't been reached yet. Why would that be? The computer date and time is correct.

Unable to load XML file in IE8

After some googling, I realize that it becomes a common error that we can't load XML files in IE8.

The old code from W3C doesn't seem to work. The Error, according IE8's debugger is on line 13 (xhttp.open("GET","cd_catalog.xml",false);), Access Denied. Apparently, the opening condition check for IE 5 or 6 also failed, in IE8, xhttp=new XMLHttpRequest();

Speculating about this error, some people claim that it is an error caused by accessing XML file locally, but after uploading it to servers, the code does not work either. Some say that it is caused by an issue that is fixed by XML 3.0 update, but I already did XML 4.0 update, which means this shouldn't be the case. The others, simply think that XML sucks and I should use JSON for data transfers.

I have developed a website using Microsoft Expression Web 3. Please look at it www.homesfromtheheart.org

Everything seems to work nicely in the latest browser versions like IE8, Firefox, and Chrome. However, when the website is viewed on IE7 the horizontal navigation bar below the mast head is rendered as a vertical list of buttons which appear on top of page content. IE 8 The memory could not be "written"\"READ" error.

Hi,

I m getting following error while selecting one specific drop down) from my site. Error is as bellow:

the error is coming to IE 8 only.

When I click on OK button then I m getting following error:

Just for specification, I m using windows server 2003 and symentec. I have not installed IE 8 on my machine to test the same. I m using www.xenocode.com/browsers/ for IE8. When I tried same thing unistalling symentec, it worked fine. Is there any relation of IE8 and symentec?

Can anybody suggest how can I fix this bug?

1. I use thickbox for previewing image gallery.

2. I have some pictures on disk that used on my web page (1.JPG, 2.JPG, 3.JPG). - Name of files is very important.

3. Thickbox.css have next javascript code to calculate image size.

4. When I was testing my website I have added 6 pictures, than drop it, that add agin another pictures. And i got situation when 5.JPG have size 1000x500 first time and 500x1000 second time.

And it was streched to 1000x500 second time and was looking ugly (my alert shows me that width & height were as I described here! It is amazing for me.)

5. I've checked this issue in next browsers:

Chrome - no problem.

Opera - no problem.

FF 2.0 - no problem.

FF 3.5 - no problem.

Safari - no problem.

IE 6.0 - here it is.

IE 8.0 - here it is.

6. Cleaning cashes of browser doesn't help me.

7. Exit & rerunning browser doesn't help me.

P.S. Anybody knows something about this bug or issue???

P.S.S. I have fix this problem changing mechanism of filenaming. Now I have names like that: 04851e54f0db52dbde4dffeb8ae3fa5b.jpg and it works!!!

Multiple versions of IE testing from TredoSoft

IE 7 crashes when drawing VML with OpenLayers

I use ASP.NET and OpenLayers (JavaScript-based map component) with IE7 to draw maps and routes on maps.

When drawing the vector-based routes (VML on IE7) the browser crasches regularly when the route is long. Usually not on load, but when zooming a couple of times, i.e. when the routes has to be redrawn with VML a couple of times.

The module that seems to be the problem is VGX.DLL. It seems to be the DLL that handles VML.

I know that OpenLayers is a non-Microsoft product, but since it based purely on JavaScript, I think that it should not be able make the browser crash.

Does anyone know if there is a fix or workaround for VGX.DLL (version 7.0xxx)?

I know that MS wanted to reduce the amount of useable CSS-Hacks but I didn't found any message or news about it.

i am susing msrdp.cab developing web portal for remote desktop connect. every thing is running smoothly and ok but before connection a dialog box appear like this

" a website wants to start a remote connection. The publisher of this remote connection cannot be identified."

and so on give me two option connect or Cancel

but i do not want to appear this dialog box i want just open remote desk top and i do not want to press Connect button
but i could not find any way to get rid from this dialog box

Implement custom Drag and Drop from IE to Excel

There is a requirement to drag and drop certain item from the web page onto the excel application. Currently there are means to drag-drop items within web pages using JavaScript (Ex- http://www.redips.net/javascript/drag-and-drop-table-content/). But I need to extend this drag and drop facility to outside applications like excel. The item that needs to be dragged can be either a single data entity or a collection of several data items like tables or a full-fledged draggable component (like chart diagrams). However, the dropped items will be plain data or collection of data in a spreadsheet format that will be decided by the programmer based on the data available within the dragged entity.
Similarly, the user should also be able to do the reverse, i.e. drag and drop the data items from within excel application back into the web page in designated drop targets.

Any ideas how this can be achieved. What might be the possible technical challenges involved. Any better approaches?

Z-INDEX ISSUE IN IE7

I've created a CSS based dropdown menu which is working fine in all browsers apart from IE7.

The problem I have is that the dropdown menu sits behind a relative DIV which has absolute positioned elements in it. When I set the DIV to a negative z-index the CSS menu goes on top of the image, however, the links in the positioned UL then become unclickable.

I'm a little puzzled as to why IE7 would be doing this, as I'm sure my stacking order is correct.

PLEASE NOTE: The background is going to become FLASH with positioned text on top of it. Therefore, this is the reason why I've used positioning, I realise I could of used padding and margins to get my ideal positioning.

I'm trying to create a website on an Intranet, but when i try to log in the main page this message appears:

"Logon failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank passwords not allowed, logon hour restrictions, or a policy restriction has been enforced."

I'm sure that this error has to do with my IIS settings, but I can't figure out where exactly. so can anyone help please?

I have winXP sp2, and my site is built using VS2005 C# code behind.

Hi,

One of the pages in my web application, requires to display huge amount of 
data.
Its a list of items, with drop down list as one of the column to select a 
value.

Problem is the items displayed and page looks good in IE7.0 with proper 
drop-down lsit for all the items, even when tested with 10,000 number of 
items.

However, with IE6.0 the page has problem even with 4000 items. Issue is that 
the drop down list is not proper and not displayed for the items towards the 
end of the page.

Is this problem with size of http data ? Kindly let me know if there is an 
issue with IE6.0 ?

I just installed 17 new PC's at work, which are running Windows XP Professional SP3 and came with Internet Explorer 8 installed. Today we came upon an issue where a website we use to upload documents is not acting as it did previously. It is a javascript form used to upload files that works fine if you click the Browse button to find the file, but with IE8 we are not able to type the path into the given field. If you click in the field box it shows a blinking cursor but you cannot type in it. The website still works fine in IE7, allowing us to type into that field.

[Edit: I should add that I called Microsoft Support about this today and they "solved" the issue by remvoing IE8 and installing IE7.]

IE8 loses cookies when starting a new iexplore.exe process

Hi, I have IE8 8.0.6001.18702 installed on Win XP SP3 machine.

Every time IE launches new iexplore.exe process, it starts with empty cookies, even if new IE window was opened by clicking a hyperlink with Shift, Ctrl, or via javascript window.open. I have written a simple aspx page for testing, and send the link to my friends, who are using IE8, but this problem seems to affect only my machine. I have also Win XP SP3 with the same version of IE8 running under MS Virtual PC and it works fine. As well as about 15 other machines with different OS + IE8.

After cookie is lost, a new session is opened, causing some problems in the ASP.NET application I'm working on, as it requires data stored in ASP.NET Session, which became unavailable for new window.

Earlier, I had IE8 beta installed, but removed it after a little while. As I found from MS Connect, there were some similar issues in beta: https://connect.microsoft.com/IE/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=408806

I have tried to uninstall IE back to IE6 and install IE over IE6 (originally it was IE6 - IE7 - IE8b - IE7 - IE8 installation sequnce).

How can I know which textbox will be active in IE when the page loads?

This may be limited to only a page refresh, and may not happen on user requested postbacks.

I have a large editable grid with many textboxes. I place my cursor in one textbox, I push the refresh button, and after the page loads the cursor will be in a different textbox on a different row.

As best I can tell when the page initially loads and any time the form loads after being submitted, there is no default control selected and only after pressing the tab key focus is then brought into the form (starting at the top left and moving through the form)

Any documentation or thoughts people have on default cursor location would be very helpful.

(The refresh button is causing my onfocus logic to fire before the AJAX controls are ready, making my javascript explode... But to me that's a seperate issue to why refresh is doing this in the first place...)

How do you override the compatibility mode for an intranet site if the "Display intranet sites in Compatibility View" is checked? I am referring to the Browser Mode, not the Document Mode. Press F12 or select the Tools | Developer Tools menu to see what I mean. I keep reading that the meta tag will do this, but it doesn't for me. If the "Display intranet sites in Compatibility View" checkbox is checked, I can't get the Browser Mode to be IE8 no matter what value I set the meta X-UA-Compatible tag to.

I downloaded and installed the IE Developer Toolbar and it doesn't seems to work.

All the menus are in gray and I can't do anything.

Opening MHT file fails to render and instead shows source in IE7 and IE8

This problem breaks our application and is a show stopper for us. Our application hosts a WebBrowser control to show MHT files. However, we have recently found that IE fails to show MHT files correctly on certain XP SP2/SP3 configurations.

At two of our customer sites in the last week customers report that opening an MHT file in IE shows only the source. For example, we created an MHT file from the page at www.microsoft.com. i.e. saved this as MHT and then try to open the file. The browser launched but its window show the source of the file instead of rendering the MHT. i.e. something similar to the following is shown within the browser window:

All our customer sites where this is occuring are using non-English installations of Windows XP. This problem is occuring on IE7 and IE8 (those sites where it is occuring on IE7 are not fixed by the upgrade to IE8 [8.0.6001.18702])

The thread in the last link shows how to fix the problem if the MHT file associations is incorrect. This method can be used to reproduce the symptoms on a working English installation (i.e. remove the MHT file assocation), however this fix does not work on non-English systems where the problem is occuring (i.e. even if the MHT file assocations are correct the problem still occurs).

A similar problem can occur if the MHT file contains # symbol in the filename or a non-English character in the filename/filepath, however avoiding these filenames still does not solve the problem (i.e. even if the filename contains only English characters this problem still occurs).

We've reset all IE settings but still no luck.

min-height CSS Property

Hello,

Everything I have read suggests that Internet Explorer (from version 7 up) supports the CSS property for min-height. However, I can't get it to work. I am using Visual Studio 2005 and building a C# web project just for a personal website and quickly came up against this.

The header div does not resize to the minimum height specified. I've tried this with a couple of different doctypes but there's no difference in how this behaves. Any idea what's wrong?

Internet Explorer 8 beta 2 paste url crash

Hi all

I am currently running the IE8 beta 2. all seems ok and smooth however every time i try to copy a link be it from a normal text based file or from a webpage in IE its self as soon as i paste it in the address bar IE just locks up. I then have to return to the desktop rerun IE I get a msg start at home page or reload last sesion if I try to load last session IE just wont run so I have to select homepage option.

Does anyone know if this is a programming error as IE8 is in beta mode or does anyone have a fix for it.

OK peeps I managed to find a FIX

I found this fix on another web site, what you need to do is to enable autocomplete for web addresses.

This can befound under tools\internet options\content\settings\autocomplete.

IE problems with adobe reader 9

Just installed Adobe reader 9. Now whenever I close a IE window, I get the following message: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I uninstalled reader 9 and the problem went away. I reinstalled reader 9 and the problem is back. I got no response from the Adobe Reader forum. My version of reader 8.1.4 was not working properly, so I uninstalled that before loading reader 9. Any suggestions?

Adobe Flash Player not functioning in Internet Explorer 7

Hey, had a new laptop for christmas with windows vista. not too many problems, except when I try anything involving a flash player on Internet Explorer 7, it says Adobe Flash is not installed. So I got, I install it, it says it has installed fine, restart coputer, go to youtube or other app; "Adobe Flash Player is not installed" It's got to be a problem with Internet Explorer because my Flash stuff works fine on firefox and other browsers. Sorry, am not brill with computers and really need some advce.

Another issue with Internet Explorer 7; when I have had more than one tab open for a while, everytime I reload a page or go to another page it says something like "Error; memory expired at line 2046" or something. Not noticable effects, but it tends to get more frequent, so that several pop up every timeI click on a link or refresh or anything. Only happens when I have more than one tab active. Again, would appreciate any adive anyone could give me

I wrote a family history program in HTML on the Internet Explorer on the computer I bought in 2005 using separate pages for each family member, and writing and editing as I moved back and forth through the program. I recently accepted an upgrade to Explorer 8 and was annoyed and disappointed to find it does not support editing of HTML pages. From where can I download an earlier version that does allow editing ? Will it interfere with the Explorer 8 now installed ? Will I have to pay for the download if from Windows ?

Cannot find substitute for target='_blank'

I have several pages on several sites that include <a href=sURL target="_blank">. In IE8, these links die. It seems the target function is not supported in IE8. I have been trying to find a workaround, and thought that window.open would work. However even though I can get it work on FF, Safari and Chrome, it does not work on IE8. Any ideas?
