IE 9 freezes up CONSTANTLY
-
Friday, April 08, 2011 1:41 AMI downloaded IE 9 last week, hoping it would be good. However, I have had nothing but problems. 75% of the time that I click a link within an e-mail or try to open an attachment, IE freezes up and I have to ctrl+alt+del to end program. 50% of the time that I do that, if I click "Restore session" that also freezes it up. 50% of the time that I try to open another tab it also freezes up. This happens all the time; I'm constantly ending the program multiple times to try and have access to a webpage. I'm utterly frustrated with this and totally regretting the download, so I would REALLY like some help as to how to use my IE 9 without having it freeze up all the time!

Tools>Internet Options, Advanced tab, uncheck "Enable third-party extensions". Save your changes. Close ALL open browser windows. Restart your browser... COM Addons will be disabled. Check with Addon vendors for updates for their Addons.
Ask general IE questions at answers.microsoft.com... this forum is for html, css and script DEVELOPMENT using IE browsers.

Monday, December 12, 2011 8:00 PMNo luck unchecking Enable third-party extensions - disappointing couple hours with IE 9 on Windows 7 locking up repeatedly. Very close to rolling back to IE 8 until Chrome found me an article on reinstalling silverlight, give it a try.. worked for me!

Saturday, May 26, 2012 12:22 PMI bought a new computer that runs on windows 7 and has ie 9. I'm having a very frustrating problem with ie9 freezing up. Enable third-party extensions are already enabled. My problem is when i click on my desktop icons that link to various websites I use frequently. I click and the little circle starts turning and I can wait for eternity - nothing happens. I have to go to the task bar and find an ie internt function that is running and close it. When I do that, the selection I made from my desktop then opens. This is a ridiculous problem for a brand new computer system.

You are absolutely right, Marco. I don't understand where IECUSTOMIZER's anger is coming from. It is obvious that English is not your first language and you merely misunderstood what you read. IECUSTOMIZER should take some spelling lessons, too. Ridiculous is the proper spelling for his faux pas: rediculous. This person needs to learn some compassion. This fixed the problem..... misread the fix..... I was frustrated.............but.......you need not be nasty......

well i can't find how to uninstall silverlight, but there was a curious message about it can't run in 64 bit mode

No Joy for me. Disabled helpers, Java and Skype, Send to One Note and the ridiculous "Research" crap as well. Google loads super fast, but other websites such as chase.com lock up IE9 immediately. Chrome and Firefox work like a charm, but my cookies are within IE9.
Will try re-installing Silverlight. -
Tuesday, November 13, 2012 3:37 PMI have exactly the same symptoms as CloneTr00per. For a month or so now, IE9 x32 on windows 7 x64 takes about a minute or more to load any web page, other than google.com which is my home page for IE. All add ons have been disabled; extensions are disabled; I've reset to defaults.

Try using ProcMon to find out where the delay is occurring. With that much time there will be a noticeable gap in the timestamps.
So, does "any web page" include about:blank?

Thanks for that input Robert. I decided to try the IE 10 preview just in case that fixed it. Nope. Chrome and firefox as fast as blazes, and IE takes between 1-5 minutes to load most web pages.
about:blank gets a blank page quickly.
I will test with procmon when I get some time.

Thursday, December 20, 2012 2:09 AMI have been having the same problem with IE with Windows Vista. I downloaded Google Chrome, and this browser works great--no problems so far.

Wednesday, January 09, 2013 4:00 PMI have been dealing with the issue of Internet Explorer 9 crashing whenever I click on a link for about 2 weeks. I have disabled all add-ons, I have cleared out my temp files, I have un-installed silverlight and re-installed it. I have un-installed IE9 and tried usine IE8, and nothing worked. The only solution I could find up to today was Google Chrome. It worked fine. I have been getting used to it and was ready to dump IE forever. But every once in a while I would still check to see if it still hangs. Today I noticed when I checked it that it was in protected mode. I couldn't click on a link without it freezing. I turned it off (having to use the Task Manager to do it) turned it back on, and went to the settings before clicking on any link. I turned off protected mode, restarted the browser, and lo and behold, I could go anywhere with blazing speed. I may even try to re-install IE9 and see if the problem is taken care of there. By the way, I also run Kaspersky's Internet security suite, so I don't feel like I am not protected. In my opinion, Microsoft is responsible for fixing this problem. I have found dozens of sites where people are trying to fix this problem, unsuccessfully.

Hi,
run the Kaspersky's update from their control panel to ensure you have the latest version of THEIR software and Addons....they add a BHO to IE to perform site verification.(not required in modern IE versions because they have Phishing Filter (aka Smart Screen Filter)... (tools>Manage addons>Show All addons... look under the Kaspersky grouping)...
they also have an entry in the Windows Startup list... (on Pro versions of windows and higher... Start>Run>msconfig>Startup tab, disable any non-ms programs in the startup list and reboot for the changes to take affect) .... that turn their addon back on, even though you may have disabled it with the IE Addons Manager...
using uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions" on the Advanced tab of Internet Options..... works differently to the IE Addons Manager and stops Toolbar and BHO addons from being loaded (not just disables them).... on XP machines you need to reboot you machine to be sure the changes take affect....
however their entry in the Windows startup list MAY turn that setting back on...
your best action IS to check with Kaspersky for updates to THEIR software.
for consumer help with IE select the Help>Online Support menu from IE and follow the links for your windows and ie versions or navigate to http://answers.microsoft.com
