Locked Problems with XBOX 360 HD DVD Player

I continue to run into issues with the xbox 360 hd dvd player every time I insert an hd concert dvd.  I do not have any issues with the hd movies but have had issues with every concert inserted.  Does anyone know of a solution?

The concerts are most likely "Standard Content" discs, which are basically the same as DVDs but with High definition video. (Contrast with "Advanced Content" discs like the Universal and Warner Bros. titles which have much more advanced menu systems than standard DVD).

There are reports of compatibility issues with some Standard Content titles on the Xbox, and we are working on identifying and addressing them.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you to give me more information about this report.
Because my company have some little project (small budget) with some clients.
Problems from:    - video codec, H264 don't play well ???
                               - some command like register memory , or other ???

For testing DVD-R Advanced Content, nothing beats the xbox360 HD-DVD drive...it boots my test discs in 2 seconds vs. the HD-XA1 which takes 30-60 sec.

    A must have for Devs.

I am getting used to the Xbox360 error codes and I think that they are similar to the error codes on the HD-XA1. For example last night I got a Resource Load Error because my Playlist was messed up and I got a "xxxxx00B" error returned from the xbox...that is very similar to the Toshiba error code for a Resource Load Error.

    FYI...

    Toshiba Player Error Codes

Content Error (ex. Invalid DISCID.DAT) 0x4093C003
System Error (ex. Initialization Error) 0x4094C004
Prohibited feature is used in Restricted Mode 0x4094C008
    Resource Load Failure 0x4094C00B
    Script Failure 0x4094C00C
    Markup and other Failure 0x4094C00D
AACS Error for playlist loading 0x4094C201
    Fatal Error of AACS 0x4094C202
Read/Parse Error of playlist file 0x4094C203
    Disc Error 0x4095C501
    PAL/NTSC Error 0x4094C502
    AACS Error for EVOB 0x4094C503
    Video Controller Error 0x4094C504
    Pixel Buffer Overflow 0x4094C601

Peter, can you get a list of all possible error codes for the 360 drive?  It is very helpful.

    Thank you

    Looking into it...

The sound output from my hd dvd player is about 15 -20 dbs less than my console...  Dialog sounds muffled.  When I try to match the console output, I get a hiss...  Is this a software problem or USB cable inadequacy?

Which title(s) do you see this on? All of them, or only some?
  • Friday, January 26, 2007 2:45 PM

All of them so far (King Kong, Pitch Black and Last Samurai) - it makes the hiss even when there's no disc in the player. If I reduce the volume to eliminate the hiss, the dialog is muffled again.  And like I said, the console volume is fine. (I'm using the TOSLink from the console to my receiver.)

That helps, thanks. What is your Xbox set to output -- Dolby Digital, or WMA? If you selected WMA, does your receiver support it?

(Although I don't want this to become an Xbox support forum...)

I've selected Dolby digital.  Think I might try a different USB cable...  It seems to me that there is a signal loss between the HD DVD and the console.

(I know this is isn't a support forum, but was hoping there could be a software "tweak" to fix it.)

    Thanks.

Is this true with the HD-DVD concert - Chicago - Earth Wind & Fire DVD  - It loads to the title screen & then just freezes. It works great on the eagles HD - WOW Great!!!   I also haven't had issues with movies . Should i buy another disc??? I just got an Idea - duh! I will take my disc to a best buy or some place & test it out. but my question to you is---- Are they working on the compatablity issues & will this be fixed anytime soon? (if it is not my disc of course)

    Thanks

Actually it will work. All you guys need to do is to insert the HD DVD (from Image Entertainment, may it be the EAF - Chicago Concert or the Barry Manilow concert) and wait for the title screen to appear while NOT pressing anything before this. Immediately press the OK button on the 360 remote or the A button on the controller when the menu screen appears. The concert will play but you will have no controls over the dvd menu, at least for now. While MFST releases a patch for this.

i'm having a problem with Discovery Atlas: Italy HD DVD ...  when i put the disc in..nothing but a black screen..can't even get a menu or get back to the dashboard w/o turning the console off/on.  The only button on the remote that gets a response is the eject button.????  The player has worked great til now.

There is a known issue with this disc, due to a weirdness in its AACS data. No workaround for the current version, sorry.

Actually it was the Australia disc.  Is there a problem with the whole series?  And if there is, are there other HD DVDs that are not compatible with the 360 HD DVD player?  Where can I get a list so as not to purchase those discs.  Or return/sell my player.

I had the exact same problem with the Discovery Channel's Australia disk. I agree that a list of these known discs would be helpful to avoid wasting time or money with products that are incompatible with the Xbox 360 HD DVD player.

FWIW the Australia disc also fails to play on the Toshiba Gen 2 players. There has been much speculation as to why, but I have not seen the resolution. Have you asked the disc creators? I know at least some discs that have been fixed to run on the Xbox.

It is public knowledge that there will be an update to the Xbox player (see Amir's post on AVSForum), and we are aware of issues with the discs in this thread.

I'm running into a problem with my Xbox 360 HD DVD drive being able to play 'The Departed' HD DVD side. The first time I put it in it said the disc could not be read and asked me to click OK.  Every subsequent time I insert the disc it just says 'Reading'.  I took the HD DVD back and got a new one...same problem.

I tried another HD DVD/DVD Combo disc to see if that was the problem and it didn't work (said 'Reading') but when I tried again it worked.  Note that the other combo disc I own worked every other time I had tried it EXCEPT for the time I tried it directly after 'The Departed'

Is there a known issue with this disc? Combo discs? WB discs? WB Combo discs?

I am not aware of any issues with discs as you describe. Your drive may be faulty, or your cable could be loose. Be sure to use the usb cable that came with the drive and not another one.

After some more searching, it sounds like there are a few others out there with the same problem: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=818379

Sounds like it is sort of a toss up, and since my other HD DVDs were working with the drive (as well as other combo discs) I'm going to try to get a replacement drive and see if that does the trick.

Well called MS customer support and since my drive is out of warranty (only 4 months old), it would cost $59.95 to replace + shipping. I guess I get penalized for buying an early drive that obviously can't support a newer encode. I sure hope there aren't more future discs out there that won't work with my drive or it might be time to go buy a wii

    Very disappointed

Is there any type of software/firmware update that could fix this?

  • Thursday, March 29, 2007 4:17 PM

It really depends on the real cause: if it is a physical problem with the drive, then its unlikely to help. However if it is a drive firmware issue, then the next Xbox update might fix it.

Not sure how buying a wii is going to help you though...

I bought the whole set and had similar problems.

There are 4 disc's in total for this series

    China

    Brazil

    Italy

    Australia

China and Brazil have always worked fine on my drive; however, Italy and Australia don't work at all.  I've had them replaced twice by Amazon.ca, and same result every time.  Disc spins, screen stays black until I eject the disc, then I'm returned to the dashboard.

Amazon.ca finally emailed me saying they've been having a lot of issues with these two paticular discs, and they just gave me my money back.

Is there anyone out there who has gotten Italy and/or Australia to work on their Xbox HD DVD Drive??

The only other disc I've ever had problems with is Superman Returns (WB combo disc).   Sometimes it doesn't work, black screen, then I take it out and put it in and it works...   weird.

I cant open the tray on my dvd player.  I started to watch The Departed the other day and had to leave, when i tried to eject the movie, it wont open.  I called xbox support and they said to try the paper clip thing and all that did was activate the flashing light on the eject button.  This movie is still in my player right now.  Has anybody run into this before and if so how did you fix it?

Hi, Last night, Sat the 8th of Dec i tried to watch the Transformers HD DVD. When i pressed to play said DVD i got a message saying that my console couldn't connect to my Player, however you can see it on the dashboard and it seems to play normal DVD's , it just doesn't play HD DVD's and seeing as it is an HD DVD player, that kinda sucks!! Does anyone know the problem or came across this before. I've done all the usual ie checked the connections, turned it off for a while, tried re-installing it with the disc and i even tried it on my Brothers one to no avail!!

    Please Help!!

Before i played transformers i declined cookies by going onto another one of my DVD's and now it works no bother. I would just like to say that Transformers is AWESOME!!!

    Thanks again.

Were you able to get any info about the audio being less loud? I'm having the same issue with mine and I'm using the cables that came with the dvd player for the 360.
