Changing Default Filter in Activity and History Associated View in CRM 2011

    Question

  • Dear all,

i have the same topic as in this thread: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/crm/thread/bb541513-c033-4fef-9172-4fe56bedf130 for the MS CRM 2011.

In the Associated Activity view (on Account, Contact, Opportuntiy, Case, etc.) "Open Activities" the filter is by default set to 30 days. And i would like to change the default setting to ALL. The users hate the filters: "i just checked and saw there was no activity open ... but the filter tricked me"

The closed activities are fine, the default filter is already ALL.

I know that in the former versions this could be managed by on load scripts. But i could not find such a script for MS CRM 2011.

Maybe there is a configuration option that i missed ? Do the scripts for the MS CRM 4.0 also work on 2011 ? Does anyone has a script that works on MS CRM 2011?

    cheers Mirco

  • Hi Mirco,

I'm not sure if the V4.0 script will work on 2011 however, you could achieve the same requirement in a supported way by adding an activities sub-grid to your account, contact, opportunity etc forms and configure the activities view within the sub-grid that you wish to show (i.e. all open activities).

  • Another simpler way is to go to the account page and in the top left Information section, go to Notes & Activities and click on that. This will show all activities scheduled for that account.

You can get most of the account information from that Information section instead of the Related section.

    Hope this helps.

  • I'm no expert, but from what I understand, the sub-grid wont show related "Regarding" activities.

  • Sub-grids may be configured to only show only related records. The screenshot below shows how to configure a sub-grid on the account form to show 'all activities' that are linked to the account irrespective of status;

If by 'related regarding activities' you mean activities that are linked to child records of the record in context, then no you can't configure that in a sub-grid using standard configuration. You could however write a Silverlight web resource or embed an SRS report to achieve that.

  • I found a working script for CRM 2011 from the German Dynamics CRM forum and wrote step-by-step instructions on my blog on how to apply it to change the Activities associated view default filter to "All" (or any other value):

    http://niiranen.eu/crm/2012/01/activity-view-default-filter-missing-due-dates-and-how-to-modify-the-filter/

This allows you to preserve the activity roll-up functionality of the associated view, which I think is especially important for an entity like account that typically has many child records which may be the regarding objects of activities. That's actually the topic of a previous post I wrote a while ago to illustrate the difference in functionality:

  • Hi Micro,

Did you get any clear solution for this. I saw couple of post that used JScript to accomplish the requirement.

What did you do to accomplish yours and also the customization is supported with outlook client and mobile client.

I am totally in your situation. If you can share your approach that would be Great.

    Thanks.
