Event Flow Debugger freezes

    Question

  • I am constantly having the Event Flow Debugger freeze or hang after recording events for 5-10 seconds.

I gets to 100% in the "Processing recorded events..." dialog. But the dialog will not go away and tab stays grayed out. When I look at task manager the Event Flow debugger is taking 100% of 1 cpu.

Anyone else having this problem? Can anyone help me report this issue in a way to get it fixed? I'd be happy to take a crash dump of the process and send it somewhere.

  • I've had problems with the Event Flow Debugger hanging or freezing when recording events. Typically it was due to a high volume of long lived events. I would suggest 2 things to try:

    1. Pair down your queries to the bare minimum and try recording again.

    2. Record the events using trace.cmd from the command line. Then open the resulting *.etl file with the Event Flow Debugger. The details for how to use trace.cmd can be found here: Using the StreamInsight Event Flow Debugger
