Entity Data Model - Database connection

    Question

  • Hi All,

I am new to Entity Data Model. I have some questions on the same.

    1) I am trying to add an edmx file, wizard allows me to connect only to SQL server database. But I went through many articles, which supports My SQL, Oracle etc databases? But why does the database connection allows only SQL Server.

    2) To access the database it requires csdl, ssdl and msl files. Is there any way to create these fiels, instead of opening the .edmx file with XML Editor and manually cut and paste the SSDL content, CSDL content and mapping to respective files.

    3) Is it possible to generate the csdl, ssdl and msl xml content for different databases like MySQL, Oracle, DB2 etc.

    Thanks in advance...

Well of course, you have to install the client drivers for each database
provider on the machine. The drivers don't install themselves. And also
when you install the drivers for a database other than MS SQL Server,
the EF will do the rest for you just like it did when you pointed it to
the MS SQL Server client driver.

  • Thanks for your reply..

I have tried to search for the My SQL provider for entity framework. But unfortunately I couldn't find the right one. Could you please provide me a link from where I can download the providers?
