Virtual User Pack 2010 >1K users license

    Question

  • Hello,

Our company has got licenses for VS 2010 Ultimate SP1 according to the partnership program and need to setup stress tests for 2.5K virtual users for one of our projects.

According to the http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee850544%28v=vs.100%29.aspx it appears there are two options:

    1) Get MSDN subscription which "gives a unique Visual Studio Load Test Virtual User Pack 2010 license key to generate unlimited virtual users." Currently this Pack is unavailable for our subscription. What is the way to get it?

    2) Purchase a license for 1K users. This seems to be impossible as well as the product is completely unavailable in the web stores i.e. MS store/Amazon etc.

    Please advise!

    Thanks

  • Hello Roman,

If you want to test your application using more than 250 virtual users, you must purchase Visual Studio Load Test Virtual User Pack 2010 licenses for the number of virtual users you want to use to simulate the load on your application.

You can purchase Visual Studio Load Test Virtual User Pack where you purchased Visual Studio Ultimate.

In addition, because the question is a license issue, you can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist, and you can get more detail information from there. Worldwide customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites to find contact information in their locations. http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/index/worldwide.mspx

    Thanks for your support.

  • Hi Roman,

VS Ultimate comes with MSDN Subscription I believe.

From the MSDN subscription portal you should be able to get a license key for Load Test Virtual Users Pack. This license key gives you unlimited number of virtual users and it is included in VS Ultimate with MSDN Subscription.

Install this key on your TFS test controller and you are done.

If you need any help running the load test itself, I could support you.

    Good luck,

  • Hi,

Not a direct relevancy to this issue - How many virtual users a normal machine can run?

say an i5 processor, 4GB RAM and 100 GB HD

    Thanks!

  • That depends on your workload... In my work so far with VS2010 I cannot get over a 100 virtual users in that size of ram.....

    Thanks!

  • I believe you should be able to go with more than 100VU.

I have personally reached about 400-500VU. However it really depends on what your webtest looks like, requests being sent, text extraction rules, etc...

You can make some conclusions on the scale though.
