  • For Windows 8.1 there is a new version of Bing Maps that you have to use which you can get from here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=309344

  • Yes, but if I install the 8.1 I cannot reference it on the WIndows 8.0 project. Any other solution? Here is a photo of the references in the Windows 8.0 project. If I make a Windows 8.1 app, the Bing Maps references appear, but from the 8.0 project, in VS2013 the extension cannot be installed

  • If you are developing on Windows 8.1 using Visual Studio 2013 you have to upgrade your app to a Windows 8.1 app.

  • In this thread http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsapps/en-US/df07b982-e139-42f1-aac5-c687e00335de/why-i-cannot-see-the-windows-store-templates-in-vs2013-ultimate-preview-on-windows-80 they say "With VS 2013 Professional, Premium, or Ultimate editions, you can maintain existing Windows Store applications designed for Windows 8."

I just want to compile and run windows 8.0 apps in windows 8.1 with VS2013, the only problem is related with the bing maps dll. I have tried to unzip the extension and extract just the DLL's but this happens

  • At the end, If you uninstall the 8.1 Bing map control, download the 8.0 bing map control, unzip it and install the "Bing.Maps.Xaml.vsix" works!

  • Good answer! Unzipping and installing Bing.Maps.Xaml.vsix (or JS) for win 8 worked for me.

    1. Download bing maps SDK for Windows 8 from Microsoft.com.

    2. Rename file and add the .zip extension.

    3. Right-click and Extract

    4. You will get the Bing.Maps.Xaml.vsix file. Click to install.

I developed my entire app in 8.1, and then learned that it is *not* backward compatible with Windows 8. Since 60% are still on Win 8 vs. 40% on 8.1, I needed my app to run for both. No time to develop twice and maintain two code bases, as a small shop.

As a note, Microsoft Advertising SDK for Win 8 will install just fine. It's just the Bing Maps SDK that has a backward compatible problem.
