Hi
MSDN is now included on the install CD or ISO. I think only the Express version which is probably a download only does not have MSDN content (so you need to use the content manager to get the local help).
If you have a DVD of VS 2010 setup then you can simply install local documentation from that and save yourself the 1.x GB of download.Local documentation is stored on the DVD in the \ProductDocumentation\ folder. To install local help:- Run Help Library manager (Help menu of VS 2010)
- Click "Install content from disk"
- Browse to x:\ProductDocumentation\HelpContentSetup.msha
- Select and install all local packages
Normal Installation
MS Help Viewer initialization and local help install is done on the last screen of VS 2010 Setup when you hit the blue "Install Documentation" button (not sure if you see this with a Web Install).

Hi,
I think there was a missunderstanding.
Rob was talking about the offline help (Also called MSDN before VS 2010) and not about a MSDn Subscription which will give you access to a lot of downloads.
In general you should know what you ordered / payed for. If you only got a license key to Visual Studio and some installation media, then it seems that you do not have a MSDN subscription. But you should clarify it with the source where you got it from.
I just know the msdn subscription that I got from my company and that came to me through an email which contained a key that I had to enter on the msdn site to activate the subscription. So my suggestion is to simply clarify it with the persons who sold you / gave you the Visual Studio license.
With kind regards,
Konrad
