Permission to create a new folder on the desktop

    Question

  • Hello,

I'm first time here asking for help of which I have ignorantly done something wrong on the permission security for creating a new folder on the desktop. Now, I cannot create a new folder on the desktop nor can I transfer anything to the desktop whether it be a shortcut or any folders.

This was the steps that I have clicked on before all this happen

I wanted to have a protected folder of which none can access, so I right click the mouse and clicked on "briefcase" and I started to change the permission in the security tab. And then I clicked ok. After realizing that it was not a folder, I threw it away in the recycle bin. And since then, I could not access the create new folder on the desktop by just right click.

I need permission to create a new folder. Everytime, I want to create a new folder (The options changed when I right clicked on the desktop - only folder option with a shield with four colours), it says, permission required to create any shortcuts, folders onto the desktop. Destination folder denied. You need permission to perform this action.

Can you please help me to revert whatever that I have done, so that I can create new folder with ease on the desktop as in times past?

    Thank you

  • channah,

You will want to visit the TechNet Forums located here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/categories/
. This sounds like a security issue but you do not indicate which version of the Operating System you are using. If this is Vista, you could post this question in the Windows Vista Security forum on TechNet here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/itprovistasecurity/threads/. I hope this information assists you. Please inform me if this does not and I can try and direct you to the correct forum.
