Visual Studio components installed with SQL 2008r2 causing security hit

    Question

  • Good day.

We are currently getting pushback from the security folks regarding Visual Studio components being installed on our SQL servers.  SQL servers, according to our guidelines, is not supposed to be running anything but SQL Server.  Is there a way to remove them and not break anything?  If not, is there any documentation we can point to to show that it's integral to product and cannot be removed.

    Thank you.

  • Hello,

Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS ) is based on Visual Studio.BIDS is an integrated development environment for Analysis Services, Reporting Services, and Integration Services solutions.

It's an installation option you can choose during installation if you don't want to install the shared feature on the server. You can install it only on client/developer machines.
