VS 2013 not showing new Windows Phone Templates

    Question

  • I'm running VS2012 Pro & VS2013 Pro on my laptop.  Before installing VS2013 I already had the Windows Phone 8 SDK installed.  My problem is that I can see all the new phone templates in VS2012, but can't see them in 2013.

I've tried un-installing and re-installing the SDK, but it makes no difference.  I've tried downloading the online template samples, but get the error that they are incompatible with "this version of Visual Studio".  I haven't found anything online to say that VS2013 doesn't support WP8 development yet, so what am I missing?

  • I believe WP8 is now part of the standard VS2013 installation, but you'd have to add it as an optional feature during the installation.

  • Thanks.  I don't remember seeing this when I installed it the first time (obviously).  For any MS folks reading this, it might be an idea to put a little reminder on the download page for those of us without ESP :-)

  • Go to uninstall VS2013.

You'll get the option to "Modify".

This takes you to the original install window with options to choose which packages you want to install.

Select the Windows Phone SDK and click Install.
