dbo cannot see tables or procedures in database

    Question

  • I have a new install of SQL server developer edition 2008 and I am trying to replicate a working system that we have in production to make changes.

I didn't want to bother with the security issues (we have multiple 'users' who are actually all web or windows services) so I set the default schema to dbo.

When the application in question runs, I get an error indicating that it cannot log into the database. I have error checking in place so that I can see it is in fact the correct user name and password.

I then used that user name and password to log into the Management Studio, which I could. But I discovered that while logged in as that user I could not see any tables or any stored procedures.

The default schema for this user is 'dbo'. The owned schema is db_Owner.

    What have I missed?

    Why does this not work?
