Resource usage and task finish date does not reflect the work and scheduling options. Pl

    Question

  • Hi,

My calender option is 7 hrs a day and scheduling option is "Fixed work".

    My Problem & background

    • I have 4 tasks [Task 1 = 7hrs, Task 3 = 8hrs, Task 4 = 7 hrs, Task 4 = 8hrs]
    • Task 3 having FS dependency on task 1 while task 4 has FS dependency on task 2
    • Task 1 & 2 start on 17th March by Resource 1 and Resource 2 respectively
    • Gant chat view shows that Task 1 finishes on 17th itself and Task 3 also starts on 17th it self. Also Task 2 start on 17th and finishes on 17th while task 4 start on 18th.
    • When i look at the resource usage each resource work 8 hrs day

    My questions

    • If I have defined 7hr work day: why resource usage shows 8 hrs per day, should not it be 7 hrs Max per day
    • Also, if a work day is 7 hrs, why task 2 [8rs] end day is shown as 17th itself where it should be 18th Tuesday [7 hrs on 17th and 1 hr on 18th]

I'm concern even if we set the option as 7hrs work day [35 hrs week], does MS project still use 8hr work day. What options we have to make it 7 hrs work day and 35 hrs work week which is our productive week.

Can someone please help me to clarify the above.

You have to set the same working time in both project calendar working week hours and MS Project schedule options.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thank you Guilaume, it helped me to find the solution for my problem.

We could change the default work week - working time and achieve what I wanted to achieve.

    Steps to do this

    - Click the "Project Menu" -> then click "Change Work Time"

    - From the pop up, select the "Work week" tab

    - Select the "default" and click "Details" button

    - Select the day you want to change the work time

    - Select the "3rd option" - Set days to these specific working times

    - Specify the working times as you wish

    - repeat it for all working days.

now it takes my working day as 7 hrs.
