AD/SQL Sync Issues

    Question

  • Hi,

I am restoring the backups of two complete servers. One is my active directory server and the other is my SQL server. The SQL server backup is two days older than the AD server backup. Is this likely to cause any AD syncing issues?

    .Cheers

  • Can you elaborate your question more? AD has nothing with Sql or Sql backup except  Domain logins will be checked against AD for authentication and again checked against Sql Server for Authorization.

  • Thats what I'm querying. Will there be any issue with the accounts authenticating between the servers? I realise if a user password has changed in between there could be issues but would there be any other authentication/sync issues? This is more a server level query than SQL but I thought I would query it here as my SQL could be impacted.

  • There will not be a problem for existing logins as their password will be checked in AD itself. I do not think AD domain password are stored in Sql. when they connect with either windows auth or sql auth , it should work.

  • Correct. No AD pwd stored in SQL Server - only the SID.
