Zoom in/Out rapidly with Bing Maps on Android Chrome

    Question

  • We have been developing an application using Bing Maps SDK v7 and while the application is working well on other platforms we have found when using the Bing Maps setview function the chrome android browser is liable to hang.

This does not occur everytime however it is consistent enough that the application would be annoying to use on the Chrome Android browser.

We have stripped down the application to it's bare bones and found that the problem is essentially seems to be the fast zoom that results from calling setView on the map. We can re-create this problem here:

On a chrome android tablet, drop down the zoom control, then zoom in and out a number of times and the browser appears to hang.

While we can design out the rapid zoom we can't entirely account for the user rapidly zooming in and out and thus hanging their browser.

We've done this a number of devices, mostly running either 4.2.1 or 4.2.2 version of Android OS and latest version of Chrome, currently 29.

  • We are having the same issue.  The android browser works fine as do all of the main browsers on the PC and MAC.  However, the Chrome browser on Android has not started to lock up whenever it goes to our map.  We also set points on the map and then call the SetView routine.  It will do a zoom level change and therefore it hangs everytime we go to the page.

This is killing our application for our Android users.  Is there a work around?
