WP8 SDK and Windows 7?

    Question

  • Do I really need Windows 8 for WP8 developing? Is it possible to run the WP8 SDK on Windows 7?

  • The Windows Phone 8 SDK only supports Windows 8 64-bit (x64), as stated in the System Requirements.  It is not supported on Windows 8 32-bit or earlier versions of Windows.

  • The workaround solution is installing Win8 Pro preview into VHD and using VHD boot.

It doesn't need to re-format existing Win7 system.

  • Hi Alex - unfortunatelly this is not supported:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/windowsphone/develop/ff626524(v=vs.105).aspx#BKMK_boottovhd

"If you try to run an app on the Windows Phone 8 Emulator while you are running Windows from a bootable VHD, the emulator typically takes several minutes to start or fails to start. When the emulator fails to start, you see the following message: App deployment failed. Please try again.

This configuration is not supported. "
