Is Casablanca going to be multi-platform and / or open-source?

We've been asked this specific question several times.
As we mention in the Casablanca FAQ, it is our intent that when we launch it as actual supported software, Casablanca will be available as open-source. While Casablanca's utility isn't limited to Azure, the Azure connection is very important. Other Azure SDKs are open-source, so Casablanca will be open, too. We also intend it to be multi-platform, so that the client libraries are as broadly available as possible.
Why isn't it already released as OSS? We simply don't think it's mature enough yet. Based on your feedback, we expect to make major changes to the APIs and see a lot of churn between now and the first real release.

Thursday, June 07, 2012 6:01 PMTo provide some feedback, here are the platforms we would be wanting to support as a minimum: WinRT, Windows, iOS, Mac, Linux, Android, and (if possible) Windows Phone 8.

No, Casablanca is not going to be tied to VS 2012 RTM -- we have some more work to do to get it to product quality. The plan is to release as an Azure SDK on the Azure Developer portal (and sources on GitHub), not with Visual Studio.

Yes, that is our intent, but we cannot guarantee it at this point. Casablanca is lower priority than some other projects are also releasing after VS 2012.
