I've tried everything offered in this forum, cannot get Async CTP3 to install. Can anybody help?

Question

I'm on Win 7, have Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate, SP1, etc., relatively new computer, and at first, it appeared as if it had installed.  Installation successful, etc.., yet nothing was there.  There was nothing on my computer Async related.  So that led me to these forums.  I was told to uninstall a couple of hotfixes.  I rebooted, etc., and that didn't work.  Then it just flat out said, "installation failed".  Then I tried uninstalling Silverlight 5.  Reboot.  "Installation Failed".  I tried running it from "My Documents" and running the installation file from there.  That failed.  Am I missing something?  I know I'm not the most intelligent person in the world, but what specifically can I do to get this to install?  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

For what I've been able to gather from reading these forums and pages on the Async site, this package is just plain broken. I've spent a whole day trying out all sorts of possible fixes announced around these forums, but nothing seems to work. I hope that Microsoft will come up with a definite answer and fix for this problem as soon as possible.

Can you post the list of Visual Studio 2010 updates on your machine? Any update that is post Async CTP 3 (October 2011), will prevent installing Async CTP.

I was having a similar problem.  I have VS2010 Ultimate SP1 and this Async CTP3 install would fail at the begining.  It was giving me a link to a log file which contained this: 

Patch (d:\ac47b0899df921f8221e57f01c\VS10-KB0000001.msp) Install failed on product (Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate - ENU). Msi Log: 
MSI returned 0x2

So, I noticed when you first launch this installer, it unpacks to a temp folder, so I copied this folder and inspected the contents and sure enough there was the VS10-KB0000001.msp file.  So, this time, I cancelled the Async CTP3 install and ran the msp file and sure enough, it pops up a dialog asking for the VS2010 Ultimate Disk, so I mount the disk image and let it install.  It appears to install an update (or the whole package) for "Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone 7.1 - ENU".  After that finished, I went back and tried the original Async CTP3 installer (assuming it would see that package is already installed and skip it this time) and sure enough, it ran to completion!  Successful install! 

Update: Then, after installing this package, when I ran VS2010 it asked me to reapply SP1 because not all packages were SP1... odd.
