Does Compact and Repair affect linked tables?
-
Thursday, March 15, 2012 5:55 PMI have an Access 2010 database with several linked tables to an external SQL database. I want to know if using the compact and repair feature will affect either the Access linked tables or the original SQL tables.

I use linked tables extensively, and thankfully, have never seen any evidence whatsoever that linked tables are affected in any way by the "Compact and Repair" utility in Access. They should be safe from this. It is my understanding that the "Compact and Repair" utility is designed purely to manipulate data that are stored WITHIN access.Matthew Slyman M.A. (Camb.)

After I link to a MySQL backend my ACCDB file jumps from 7 to 20MB so I always have to run compact and repair. There is no adverse effects from this.
