Need to Retrieve the Result in Test Explorer in Visual Studio 2012

    Question

  • I have been working with Visual Studio 2012 and have integrated NUnit with it. I need the results that are shown in the test explorer, for example, the error message generated in case the test failed and some other details that are available such as time elapsed etc. Is there a way to store these results somewhere in some huma readable format?

  • Hi,

You can run tests using mstest.exe and generate .trx file. Then you can use trx2html tool: http://trx2html.codeplex.com/ to convert Visual Studio TestResults files to html format.

    About mstest.exe, please see: MSTest.exe Command-Line Options

    Best regards,

  • Hi,

There is no way to store test results information in Test Explorer into somewhere directly in Visual Studio 2012.

Except using mstest.exe and trx2html, another possible way is to write your own code to get the test results information through TestContext Class and then store them into other files.

  • Is it possible to do it directly using VS2012 or MSTest is the only option?
