    Hoi Noah,

is the 2010 fully compatible with the 2008 (because i am missing the 2009 ;-))

In other words, can i import my 2008 projects to 100% in the 2010 version ?

    Hi Noah,

I rushed to see the link, was disappointed to see there is no F# express version available. Are there any plans to release one?

The download is excruciatingly slow :'(

156 MB for the C# version is taking ages. Guess everyone is trying at the same time

I don't get it.  What is the purpose for a beta of the Express editions?  The full edition beta's I understand.  I don't remember beta's for VBE2005 or VBE2008.

It's simple: the express edition is still on beta phase
I just completed the download and will try it for a week or two

Hey JohnWein, we release Betas of the Express editions are separate product and we want to release high quality versions of them as well as the Professional and Ultimate.  There are sometimes issues unique to the Express editions we appreciate getting vetted before releasing them.  We did not release a Beta 1 of Express like we did for Pro+ and we did have betas for Express 2005 and 2008 (long since removed by now).

    Hey Ganesh,
Please be patient with the download and I hope it's completed long by now.  It was a busy day for our servers!

Hey Ganesh, there will be no F# Express.  For F# functionality users will need to use the Professional or higher products.

    Hey Trixi-N,
It looks like the other users provided most of the answers, but I'll chime in as well.  Express 2010 should be compatible with 2008 in that you can open, compile, build, and run your projects previously created in Express 2008 and there are no feature take backs.  But this is why we have the beta so people can try it out and let us know if we missed anything.  If you experience problems, please let me know on this thread or by posting directly into our bug database at https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio

    thanks, Noah

Thanks viastain and everyone else for downloading and trying out the Beta!  We post it so that we can get your feedback and make sure it's in good working order for a final release.  Please post your feedback directly in our customer feedback database at https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio and mention that you're using Express 2010 Beta 2.  thanks!

    :(

Thanks for your reply. Too bad i cant afford the professional version. At least not yet.

I hope Microsoft will release cheaper professional licenses for developers who engage in non commercial use of Visual studio. Though the express versions are awesome, I thoroughly miss some of the features in the full version.

Hey Ganesh, I don't know if you fit into one of these classifications, but for those that do they can get MSDN Subscriptions with VS Professional entirely for free with a quick registration.

There will be 1 or 2 reboots in most cases.  1 reboot is required for the .NET Framework 4.0 and on some systems (WinXP, Vista SP1, among others) a Windows Installer patch is require which requires a reboot.
