I downloaded visual c++ 2008 express edition ,almost a year ago. I used it alright for almost 3 to 4 months and then stopped using the program .Now ,when i try to open the program through start menu shortcut,i get the "windows cant open the file microsoft visual c++ express edition.lnk".

i remember i also used to get the "register your program"warning earlier when i used to open it,but i ignored it.

is there a way i can use the application again. All the visual c++ installation files seems to be in my programs folder. Is there no way i can start using the visual c++ without re installing it ,which takes a lot of time on my slow connection.?

    Hi AsifGL,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

First, please uninstall Visual C++ 2008 Express in Control Panel.

Second, download “All – Offline ISO image file” from this page: http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/products/2008-editions/express

This ISO file provide the offline registration.

Third, Extract the ISO file to your local hard disk.

Then, reinstall Visual C++ 2008 Express.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to let me know.

    Best Regards,

    Hi AsifGL,

No, you are not required to remove Visual Studio 2008 Express. Different version of Visual Studio can be installed side by side: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms246609.aspx

If you have any other questions, please feel free to let me know.

    Something similar happened.

I had a problem after downloading a program that uses the microsoft visual c++ and updated itself to probably a superseded version. This caused the c++ to stop working when the computer was restarted.

After looking at virus attempts I thought it must have been the new program. I restarted my computer with my recovery disc and rolled back the system files to last week which did the trick.

Lesson: Time spent doing backups and recovery times is time well spent.
