I have searched this forum for an answer to my question, before going into print.
Today (14 Feb 08) I d/loaded and installed Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition, from The Microsofts' Express site.
When attempting to Register the software, after having signed in using my net passport details and "loging in". I was presented with a blank web page.
The software details are as follows :-

Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Version 9.0.21022.8 RTM
    Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.5
    Installed Edition: VB Express
    Microsoft Visual Basic 2008   91908-152-0000043-60892
    Microsoft Visual Basic 2008

How do I register this software ?

Registration has been fixed.  Can you verify that it is working?

I've downloaded Visual Web Developer Express 2008.  The link in the Help menu which is supposed to lead you to where you can register the product doesn't work - it just produces a Lotus Notes error message "Invalid directory name or device not ready".

    Can anyone help?

I'm not sure as to why it would produce a Lotus Notes error but to get around registration you can always install the offline version which does not require it.

It would appear that the Registration Web Page has, and continues to have, major problems.
Some days it's 'up and running' and some days it's not.
It can be up one minute and down the other.
It took me six attempts to register before being able to do so.
Apparently you have thirty (30) days in which to complete the registration, after that, I suppose it just 'falls over'
Keep trying, that's all I can suggest.

Any solution/work around to this yet? After you submit your registration information you get a blank page. thats it. Very frustrating as now I cannot use the product at all because I cannot register it. did not have the same problem with the c# express, but for that i registered before the deadline.

This is very frustrating.  I have a project I need to finish today and I can't run the da** program.  I will buy the full version but it's Sunday and I really just need to finish this first.  I'll keep trying I guess.

    Yeah, same here.

I downloaded and installed C# 2008 and C++ 2008 on my new PC, and C# went through fine, but C++ I just got a blank page. I naturally assumed it was Microsoft - trying to make me use Internet explorer (I use Opera),
so I tried in IE8 Beta 1 and IE7, and still didn't work, so I Googled for it, and this thread came up.

    Thanks.

I'm having problems too. I've tried using both safari and Mozilla to register, however I get a blank screen after entering my information with both. I have problems with IE so I haven't tried using it. This is extremely frustrated, fortunately I decided to get it done immediately so I still have another 29 days to register. I'll be trying everyday, but if anybody finds a solution please post it.

At least I now know I'm not the only one.  I have Visual Web Developer 2008, and it won't let me register it.  I've been trying for 2 days now.  I'm running IE7 and no go.

    I guess I'll keep trying.

I am having the same problem.  I can't register Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition.  Does anyone from Microsoft actually read these posts and try to solve the problem?  It would be nice to know if someone is actually looking for a solution!  Without the registration key this "free" product is unusable and just one more source of frustration.

Almost the same problem with Visual Web Developer 2008 EE - can't register...  But, for me, when IE opens, I get an error message saying "Internet Explore has detected a problem and needs to close".  This is day 1, so hopefully some fix will come up in the next 29 days!

    I use:

    Microsoft Visual Studio 2008

    Version 9.0.21022.8 RTM

    Microsoft .NET Framework

    Version 3.5 SP1

    Installed Edition: VB Express

The registering seems to work perfectly on it.... I came across the following while googeling and this might be the reason:

"…downloaded the newest version of VS-2008 express. It appears I was using a Beta and that Microsoft disabled the registration for those versions. Too bad the web page wasn’t nice and informed me of the fact…."

I am sick to death of trying to register the product. I get left with a web page and a never ending circular display. I now have loads of large files on my pc which look like having to be uninstalled individually and not as just one product.. I tried phoning support and got nowhere. Not very professional as a company. Why can't Microsoft do soemthing that works for once instead of being bug ridden?

Hey guys, what browser are you using, try to use IE instead. It works only when you use IE, personally I used Chrome and ended up with the same problem, and move to IE it works.

I tried using IE after Chrome failed to load the registration page. Followed the above advice and it worked out.

    Solution: Use IE to register.

I have read all of this and all over the internet. I did successfully register (without issue) Visual Basic Express several months ago. Now I've been trying for a couple of weeks to register Visual C# 2008 Express and cannot do so. The graphic with the green squares creating a circle stays forever, so I've successfully logged in and my information already exists so hit continue and get to never-ending circle.  Internet Explorer is and always has been my default browser so none of that applies in my case. I did try closing IE and then attempting to register but the same thing happens.  Also wrote to webmaster twice (without response) to report the problem and sent along the error details. These errors don't mean anything to me, but I am also running out of time to register.  What on earth is the deal that this cannot be answered or fixed?
