We have to be able to sort the search results by date.
Sometimes I need the most current, sometimes I need the first occurrence.
    The dates must be displayed.
I love all of the free software and all of the support.
    Just keep getting better.
    Peace out.

During 2009, it's on our list to add a last post date to the info shown on forums results, and perhaps to other results where dates are reliable.

We'll talk with our colleagues at Live Search about sorting-- there may be some advanced operators which support this.  If there are, I'll reply to this post with more details.

Mike, I'm George Bullock, the new PM for MSDN/TechNet/Expression search. I've captured this as a feature request for Search. I'll keep the community posted as we move forward with our monthly releases.

Good to hear about the last post date being added to the forums. It's something I've wanted for a long time.

But where in his question did Neil ask about the forums ?  (There's another forum for Suggestions for the Forums, where in fact this suggestion has already been made)

    I also wonder about

"perhaps to other results where dates are reliable"

Why shouldn't the dates be reliable in your search results of the MSDN and TechNet sites ?

It's often somewhat hard to have an accurate "last updated" date for much of our content. This is particularly true in the MSDN Library where content is released in bulk (e.g. 100,000 pages at once).  Also, what constitutes an "update" is often in the eye of the beholder-- sometimes it's changing one word, sometimes a full rewrite.  I understand the ask here, just not sure our content will support it.

Hi, this is Neil again. Thank you all for trying to figure what I meant. I had expected the directing page to be known.  Oh well. My suggestion should be able to be system wide and almost any date will work. You might sort by topic then date. The problem was that with out a date to organize search results by W95 and W98 listings are mixed up with everything. You spend most of the time looking for the newest releases so you might make the default search list from newest to oldest.
Thank you all again, have fun.
    Peace out.

This feature would be particularly convenient in the forums.  When I search WCF for MSMQ the latest posts are nowhere near the first page of results.
