Support for 3D Series
Support for 3D Series
- Is there plan for adding support for 3D series (z,y,z) and charts such as surface, mesh, scatter, ..., etc?
Many thanks,- Edited byIsrael Vieira Tuesday, December 02, 2008 5:44 PM

- We do not have exactl list of features we will be adding in the next release. It will depend how many customers will request 3D surface or mesh charts.

- A simple XYZ scatter chart would be really useful for many scientific applications, especially if the end-user can easily rotate it at run time. A 3D surface might be useful too.
If one is serious about data visualisation and scientific application, 3D plots needs to be included. Where can we, the customers (the company I work is a MS partner) , express our wishes for such feature to be included in future releases?
Many thanks,
- This forum is a good place to start... :)
Alex. - I vote for this. I am going to have to buy a 3rd party package because I can't wait for the decision to be made to include this feature at some point in the future.
- Yes, we (as normal engineer) use 3D plotting every day!!
without 3D type plot supporting, chart control has very limited application.
I am going to write my own 3D chart control and it is actually not so hard.
I am wondering why MS does not do that now, it is rather easy for them to do so.
by the way, I compared to MS chart control and Zedgraph control (wrtten completely with c#), if the data series contains more data, then MS chart will kill you if you are not patient enough to wait, in contranst, plot the same data with Zedgraph, it is 10 times faster!! Do you believe it? It is true!! - Microsoft are not interested in supporting engineers and scientists, only the accountants. Otherwise Excel would have had these types of features 10 years ago.
Yes, I also join you all in demanding support for 3-D graphics and other enhancements to cater basics needs of science & engineering professionals, students and teachers.
- Another hand up for 3D surface plotting - or at least 3D point plotting. Without knowing exactly what's under the hood, I'd still expect most of the foundation for surface plotting is there. A quick win for us engineering, stats, and maths types perhaps?
- I think 3 charting support of the kind you have mentioned is a must. I think this would be a realy great feature to have.
Please please add this support...
Many thanks. - I think the best solution is use other applications to draw in 3d, by example matlab because microsoft don't has the kind of 3d drawing. If you know one kind to drawing 3d in visual, please explain me. Thanks
