  • Hi,

    How to migrate SQL server in below environment:

    1. Upgrading/Migrating from Sql Server 2005 (Mirroring) to SQL Server 2008 R2 Mirroring

    2. Upgrading/Migrating from Sql Server 2005 (Log-shipping) to SQL Server 2008 R2 Log-shipping

    3. Upgrading/Migrating from Sql Server 2005 (Replication) to SQL Server 2008 R2 Replication

  • Hello Vijay,

    I will suggest you side by side migration here.In all cases you have to build new Windows server and install SQL server 2008 R2 on it. 2 server for Mirroring and two for Logshipping.

    Now use backup restore method to move database from 2005 to 2008 R2.Migrate logins and jobs if any.

    Configure mirrorng and log shipping for newly created instance.If your application can connect successfully to both mirroring and log shipping stop old server and point application to new one.

    PS: For replication follow same advice.
