Looks like you damaged the Activation data. Re-install them with slmgr.vbs /rilc from a CMD with admin rights and type in the key and activate Windows again.

  • What is the exact error message that you get when you get the c004f012 error? Please list the exact verbiage.
Most of the time you see this error when trying to use Windows Update or activation, not when installing.

  • Have you been able to install your Windows Updates before or have you never installed any updates?
Go to Windows Update and check View History.

Next, check activation. This could be a case of the C004F012 error.

Go to the Start Screen, type "Activate Windows". This brings up the Apps page. Click on Setting in the right panel that opens. Click on Activate Windows.
The next page will tell you whether Windows is activated. It will also give the date on which it was Activated.

If not activated, the only way to activate it is over the internet. You need to have an internet connection to activate. Please verify your time and date settings are correct, if not the system will not activate.

  • Hey Ihima,

Try using the system file checker command to see if it can identify and replace any corrupted system files. You can do this by:

    • Enter the Start screen
    • Type cmd
    • Right click on Command Prompt
    • Click Advanced in the lower right of the screen
    • Click Run as administrator
    • Enter the command: SFC /SCANNOW

Once the process has completed the results of the scan will be displayed within the Command Prompt window.

If that doesn't help, the next step will be to try using the Windows Update troubleshooter. You can do this by:

    • Enter the Start screen
    • Type troubleshooting
    • Click Settings in the right column
    • Click Troubleshooting
    • Click Fix problems with Windows Update

Then follow the instructions that will be provided in the Windows Update window.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hey Ihima,

Please answer these questions in your next reply:

    1. Did you encounter a problem in which you weren't able to complete the SFC /SCANNOW command or use the Fix problems with Windows Update troubleshooter? If so, please also let us know which step/steps you encountered problems and any error messages or prompts you received.
    2. Did you complete both of the methods above, but you are still encountering the same problem afterward?

  • Hey Ihima,

Let's try refreshing your PC to see if you receive the same C004F012 error after the refresh process has completed. Here is what will happen when you refresh your PC:

    • Your files and personalization settings won't change.
    • Your PC settings will be restored to their defaults
    • Apps from Windows Store will be kept. All other apps will be removed.

    To refresh your PC:

    • Enter the Start screen
    • Click Control Panel
    • Click General in the left column
    • Under Refresh your PC without affecting your files, click Get started

Then follow the steps that will be provided on the screen.
