Installing BAM with Biztalk Server 2013 and SQL server 2012

    Question

  • Hello All,

I have to work on BAM with BizTalk Server 2013 and SQL server 2012 , is BAM already comes with BizTalk server installation ?

Will I needs to explicitly install that ? from where I can get the installer for BAM ?

What else I will needs to work on BAM ?

Note : I want to handle Exceptions in BAM ....how to do that ?

    Thanks,

    Nitin.

  • Yes BAM is part of the BizTalk Installable.

For working with BAM you need to CONFIGURE BAM & BAM Tools - this will set it up for use.

For starting to work on BAM refer to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd320628(v=bts.10).aspx or download it from http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=2658

Note: BAM requires a basic understanding of Data Warehousing such as Cubes/Dimensions/Measures/Facts and such.

And when you say "handle exceptions in BAM" I'd assume you mean that you wish to log exceptions in BAM. BAM is a type of reporting mechanism and not a development framework for exception handling. You would do your exception handling through BizTalk using failed message routing/orchestration exception handling but you may create a BAM activity where you'd log these exceptions as and when they occur for purposes of reporting OR sending Alerts against specific BAM events (which could be a specific error).

    Regards.
