Were is the project configuration dialog in VS 2011 Beta?

    Question

  • I am using LightSwitch in VS 2011 Beta on Windows 7 x64.

When trying to run the first application I get: "This application was created for an expired beta release of Silverlight (note: which is not true) Please... upgrade the application using an official release of Silverlight."

In http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh397894(v=vs.95).aspx we are told: "To retarget an existing Silverlight 4 project for the Silverlight 5 runtime specifically, you should change the project targeting in Visual Studio, using the Silverlight Build Options / Target Silverlight Version section of the Visual Studio project configuration dialog."

Were is the project configuration dialog in VS 2011 Beta?

I uninstalled Silverlight and re-installed it.

At this moment I am told by http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx :  The version of Silverlight installed is: Silverlight 5 (5.0.61118.0) You are ready to use Microsoft Silverlight.

I created a new application.  When trying to run I get the same error message.

  • Try switching the Solution Navigator from Logical to File view. You should then be able to find the Client project and its My Project dialog where you can adjust the References. Check there are no Silverlight 4 references.

  • Thank you Simon.

There are no Silverlight 4 references whatsoever.

On the other hand, the above mentioned Microsoft page says: " you should change the project targeting in Visual Studio, using the Silverlight Build Options / Target Silverlight Version section of the Visual Studio project configuration dialog."

So, where is the "Silverlight Build Options / Target Silverlight Version section"?  I couldn't find those words in My Project dialog.

  • I would guess that those parts of the My Project dialog are hidden in LightSwitch projects because they only apply to the Silverlight Project template.

  • Make sure that the Silverlight SDK version and the Silverlight runtime versions match.  Silverlight 5 SDK is at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=28359.

    Hope that helps,
