promoting field as library column of existing infopath forms

    Question

  • I have a document library which has lots of forms stored in it. Now what i want to do is

i want to promote some of the filed as column of the library and rename some of the promoted field.

The problem i am getting is, when i promote an existing field as library column it doesn't display the data which was stored previously, however for new form submission it is working fine. Any idea??

  • Hello Mohammad,

as far as i know, there's no way to automatically update your existing form documents,

you'll have to edit/modify them in order to get you promoted fields filled, though you dont have to change anything in them, just edit and save!

if you want to go with this method, the codeplex project "SP2010 Batch Edit" find it here: http://sp2010batchedit.codeplex.com/ would help you get the job done without having to go through your documents one by one.

P.S: you can create a TEMP form field (text field), promote it to the form library, batch edit your form documents > type anything in the TEMP field > save > your form documents are now updated > remove the TEMP field.

let me know if you need any further assistance

    good day

  • You need to first create a site column, then when you promote your form fields, you pick the site column you created as the column to promote the value into, this way you can have multiple sources promoting values from controls all to one column.
