Routes API works randomly !

    Question

  • Hello all,

My manager asked me to study the difference between Bing Map Routes API Vs Google Distance Map API.

The goal is to have driving distance between differents cities in Asia/Europe.

For that, i have an Excel file with 2 columns: provenance and destination. those two parametters are used by a function vb.net which return the distance from BING Map Routes API.

My issue with bing services is it's random, sometimes I got the distance with code status ok (code 200) and sometimes I get 404-not foud status for the same couple of cities.

it's the same with IE browser, sometimes I have to refresh the page in order to have 200 status with distance's information.

I realy can't see what can causes that!

Someone could help me please :-(

  • I suspect you are using a trial or basic key which may be rate limited if the servers are experiencing peak load. When this happens requests using enterprise keys are given priority.

  • Enterprise keys aren't rate limited. Only trial and basic keys are. There is also a SLA for the Enterprise service and a dedicated support staff that customers have access to should there be any issues along with a 24x7 hotline.

  • Thank you Ricky for the answer,

Indeed, we're using a trial key.

But that's mean with an entreprise key it still can happen, and we can't buy the licence without knowing what's the frequence of this issue...

Maybe that I have to contact our local Microsoft office (France) ? To see if there is a way to have the entreprise key at least for a couple of day, in order to see the result.
